Valentines Dance, Town Hall, Saturday Evening

The town hall had been transformed into a ballroom fit for a queen (and/or king. Or multiples thereof). The ceiling was resplendent in ribbons of royal purple, gold and white, and castle murals adorned the walls.

As they entered, tonight's guests were offered their choice of crown or tiara. Over by the photographer who doesn't have a thread because that's what happens when you post at 6:30 in the morning, there was a pair of thrones set up to really complete the theme.

And- of course there was glitter. Really, people, did you even need to ask?

Anyway, the doors were open, the punch was as of yet unspiked... welcome to your 2012 Valentines Ball, Fandom!

[ooc: ocd up! up early for timezones and because i was awake already anyway. second post will go up later if/when it's needed! here, have some links for great threading justice: arrival/mingling / punch and food / shadowy corners / chaperones / dance floor / ooc ]

"I wouldn't mind a month or two named after me," Lex said. "Though I'd also prefer my alliances not to end in my partners' exile and suicide."

The fact this was probably not how Lionel expected his constant history lessons to be used only made it that much more fun.

"Fair enough," Peter said, and pretended to think about it. "How about Trajan? Sure, you lose the name recognition, but at least there aren't too many fuck-ups."

Meanwhile, Peter had devoted the entire part of his brain most teenagers used for pop culture trivia for the who's who of political leaders great and small.

Sigh, Peter.

"There's something to be said for following the example of a ruler admired by Machiavelli," Lex agreed, because it was completely normal for sixteen year old boys to know Roman Emperors and various political discourses about them, right?
lockestheway: (peter: looking down on you)

Peter, who remembered a terrible t-shirt that Kenzi had given him, pulled a face. "Must we bring Machiavelli into it?" he said. "Not that he's so terrible, but that's a little cliche."

Oh god, Peter, seriously.

"It's only a cliche if you're referencing The Prince," Lex argued. "I found Discourses on Livy more interesting."

Plus Lionel didn't keep giving him new editions of the latter.
lockestheway: (peter: i think i'm clever)

"'He who wants to alter a Republic ought to consider its condition, how one must change with the times, if he wants to have good fortune always,'" Peter, the nerd, said thoughtfully. "All right, I'll allow it, though fair warning - Republics don't have very interesting headgear."

"That's why the Republic of Lex will celebrate its founding with Nice Hat Day."

"It's a good starting point, but it just doesn't seem epic enough." Of course, Lex's definition of an epic hat probably involved flames or lasers or something.

Which would be where Peter and Lex's interests split up.

Peter was only in it for hats that could, like, stop world wars while screaming Peter Wiggin stopped the war! very loudly.

"Ah," he said, "A man of drama."

Lex had no problem with hats that extolled virtues, just so long as they could also blow stuff up.

"I'd prefer man of action, sounds better."
