Community Center, Friday Evening

When it came to Fandom, the typical alumni mixer type events tended to include a few key elements: food, drinks, and dancing.

Tonight? Not so much. Well, there was still the food and drinks, and probably nobody would actually stop you if you decided to go ahead and get jiggy with it, but the setup didn't exactly lend itself to dancing.

The setup in question? Well, the room was made to look as if a giant slumber party were taking place. There were ample blankets and pillows, and a big movie screen set up on one side of the room in order to play appropriately-themed movies.

Tahiri responded with a brief pulse of reassurance. "I have, yeah. He may be more weirded out than I am." She looked up into his face, and smiled. "It's really good to see you, too."

Ben smiled back, genuinely thrilled to see her. "Welcome back."

"Thanks." Tahiri glanced Anakin's way and smiled. "It's quite the interesting welcome this time around, isn't it?"

"That's certainly one way of putting it," Ben said a little dryly. "You're sure you're okay?" he asked quietly.

Tahiri looked him in the face and nodded. "I'm fine. I really am," she said, and there was a distinct hint of relief in her Force-sense. "More than I thought I would be. How have you been? Not teaching him awful habits, I hope."

Ben smiled. "I tried to teach him how to relax on spring break?" he offered.

"Tried, you say, not succeeded," Tahiri noted. "If you'd said you actually managed it, I'd have passed out from shock."

"I got him to put down the datapad for a little bit," Ben replied.

"Really? I always knew you were destined for great things, Ben," Tahiri teased.

His cheeks went pink. "And they will tell tales of me in the Holocron: the cousin who made Anakin Solo relax."

And away from Rebecca Logan. Ew.

. . . don't tell her about that, Ben. Or it will get ugly on this island.

"Tionne will do the story justice, don't worry." She smiled thoughtfully. "Senior year seems to suit you, you know."

He smiled. "You think so? I'm trying not to think about graduation at all."

Repression was a new and different look for him!

"You, trying not to think about things. I'm terribly shocked, Ben," Tahiri said, her expression fondly exasperated. "Except I do understand. I think."

[OOC: WHEE THIS HAS BEEN SITTING HERE FOR TWO DAYS UNPOSTED. -_-]

He chewed on his lower lip, then said, "I'm going with Ender when his ship leaves for his new colony."

His eyes begged for understanding.

Tahiri looked stunned for a moment, her surprise resonating in the Force.

Then she thought about Anakin, and the pressure he'd been under to live up to his family's legacy -- compared that to the boy she'd seen here tonight.

"You know your father won't like that," she started. "But I think it'll be a good thing for you."

It wasn't until she answered that he realized that he'd been holding his breath.

He reached out to hug her hard. "Thank you," he murmured.

Tahiri sent a pulse of affection toward him in the Force, but carefully; Anakin could sense her without trying.

"I'm so proud of you, you know," she answered quietly, half muffled against his shoulder in the hug. "And you'll be astral there."

"I'm not running away," he said softly, "but I'm tired. Two wars in four years..."

"And the Skywalker legacy on your shoulders," Tahiri added. "No. If you've got a way out of that, then take it."

It wasn't terribly Jedi of her to say that, but it was practical.

"It's getting pretty heavy lately," Ben admitted.

Tahiri reached up to brush her fingertips across his cheek. "I know. At home they already talk about you like they expect great things from you. Any time now, I expect I won't be able to take it any more, and I'll yell."

"Expect a completely blank look from Dad," Ben commented a bit bitterly.

Tahiri huffed once and got a mulish look on her face.

"We'll see. I already yelled at your mom about spending more time with you."

Ben looked halfway between shocked and impressed. "Really?"

"Uh huh. It was a while ago," Tahiri replied. "Back during the war, before Corran and I went to infiltrate Coruscant the first time. I'm hoping it stuck."
