Graduation Brunch, the Park, Early Sunday Afternoon

It was a Fandom tradition that went back... well, at the very least several years: graduation brunch, offering visitors and locals alike the best food available on the island.

There was a banner that stretched from tree to tree declaring CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2013 in big glittery letters. There were tables full of moddable food and drink. There were happy decorations in blue and yellow and a long series of picnic tables for people to sit at and mingle.

And then there was the bit at the end where Mayor Swanson was barbecuing an entire pig's worth of food. Uh... Yeah.

"Oh I completely understand, don't worry." Didn't mean it didn't suck, but he understood. "But hopefully you'll get the chance to know me especially since Percy and I are uh..."

He gave Percy a look, not knowing if he should say friends or boyfriends or what.

Sally raised an eyebrow. Percy hadn't said they were anything last night. Well no, he'd said they were classmates but he'd stopped there. He'd been tired.

"Are what?" she asked, glancing over at her son.

Percy looked away a little nervously. "Are..." He mumbled something incomprehensible.

SERIOUSLY, PERCY, YOU WERE NO HELP. "What he's trying to say, I think, is that we're sort of...together."

Sure, that was a safe word. How was it easier to explain this to their dads?

PERCY HADN'T PREPARED FOR THIS OKAY!

"Yeah, that," Percy said, nodding at Luke. "That's right."

Sally narrowed her eyes and glanced at Percy. "Together?"

"Almost like boyfriends," Luke said. "Actually it's exactly like boyfriends."

"Boyfriends."

Excuse Sally for sounding a little...surprised. She didn't have a problem with her son liking boys but liking this boy in particular? That was a little...strange.

"You're dating?"

Percy nodded.

"...sorry?" He didn't know why he was apologizing but it felt like the right thing to do.

"For how long?" she asked curiously. She had a feeling Percy had been keeping this from her for...quite awhile now.

Oh Percy you so owed him for being the one having to explain all this. Some kind of apology blowjob or something after this weekend was over.

"It's kind of complicated." What with the break ups and the sex during the break ups and who are they kidding, they were together even when they weren't together. "But I guess I'd say it'll be four years in October."

"Four years."

Well, Sally was remarkably calm considering she'd just found out about something Percy had been keeping from her for so long.

"Four years and you never thought to tell me?" she asked, giving Percy a look now. "All that time you had and never wanted to tell me about this?"

Percy just shrugged uncomfortably.

"Well...yeah okay I've got nothing for that," he admitted. "I mean, I didn't tell my dad either he had to find out from Apollo."

"I was waiting for the right time!" Percy explained quickly. "And I just hadn't found the right time until...now."

Yeah.

"To be fair, I was really worried about how you'd react," Luke said. "People don't usually have good reactions when it comes to me. I mean, for good reason, but still."

"I think I still should have gotten some information about this before now, don't you?" Sally asked to the boys at large.

Percy was silently freaking out, yeah.

Luke had never dealt with mom guilt before but he was feeling it right now even with his lack of experience. "Yeah, you should have. Especially before now considering it's after graduation and we won't be on the island much longer..."

He was gonna blame that one on Percy, yep.

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I should have told you," Percy piped up, face reddening a bit. "But, it's Luke, Mom. How should I have started this conversation with you? I mean, really?"

He glanced at Luke. "He's different. He's not like the Luke you know. This one...he's special."

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke couldn't help but smile at that. "Percy's special to me too. We've been through a lot together, and I wouldn't hurt him."

[identity profile] demigod-mom.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh." Sally sat back and glanced at the both of them. "And what now that you've graduated?"

She had a feeling she knew the answer.

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh." Yeah they were two stupid, stupid boys. "We should have said something earlier."

Sure that didn't exactly answer question but it was probably close enough.

[identity profile] demigod-mom.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Said something earlier? About coming to New York?"

She wasn't dumb but she was looking at them like they were both crazy.

"You do realize the danger in that, don't you?"

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't really have anywhere else to go," Luke admitted. "I'm sort of banned from my own universe."

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"And we'd be careful," Percy pointed out. "We're not stupid and we're both powerful. And Luke wouldn't be coming with me when I go back to Camp Halfblood to do whatever I need to do."

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah I'd stay out of it completely." Even when the fight would eventually get taken back to New York, yes.

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] demigod-mom.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"And what would you do in New York?" Sally asked Luke. "Get a job? Go back to school? Watch television all day?"

Re: Tables and Chairs

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Percy was right, his mom was pretty scary. At least he knew he deserved this. It kept him humble.

"I was going to find a job," he said. "School's not really for me."
