The Park, All Day Saturday

On Saturday morning, the smell of cotton candy permeated the island once again as the booths at Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show began to turn on and light up. There were more attractions to see today than there had been yesterday, and wasn't that just wonderful?

There was plenty of room for even more shows, if today's visitors weren't careful.

Once everything was ready, the tall man with the dark mustache stepped through the main arch again to survey the grounds and, seemingly finding everything satisfactory, he disappeared back into the small tent away from the grounds.

The carnival was open, offering more merriment and delight... and likely some terror as well.

"Pffft," Navaan said, going for a stroll through the carnival after dark. "The Whack-A-Mole game doesn't even have real moles! What kind of shady carnival is this?"

She made a mental note to round up a few of her monks and make them come back to show this stupid carnival exactly what it was missing.

Tamsin hadn't bothered to show up yesterday. She hadn't been born yesterday, thanks: magical carnivals showing up in town? No way was that anything but a Fae feeding ring, and she wasn't going to get involved.

Of course, then the complaints had started to filter into the office, and now she was here, looking bored and mildly irritated as she bought the absolute minimum amount of tickets. "Ugh," she muttered. "The least you could do is stay subtle."

The man at the booth ignored her.

Ichabod had not visited the Carnival yesterday, but today curiosity got the better of him. What kind of amusements were there to be found here?

Irene was not, surprisingly enough, much of a 'carnival' person.

Go figure.

She was, however, bored enough to eventually give into temptation, and Saturday found her donning comfortable flats (because she was not risking her Louboutins anywhere near where a child might have dropped cotton candy), and wandering in to buy tickets with an absent smile.

Sam was actually fairly used to creepiness so the carnival didn't bother him that much. He was still going to be wary and he was going to make sure he checked out everything's colors and auras just to make sure he didn't piss off something big and nasty.

She'd had a good long look around the place yesterday, but hadn't fully succumbed to her own curiosity. Today, though, Éponine had every intention of exploring the carnival from top to bottom.

. . . never mind work. It seemed to be an unusually slow Saturday for mail.

Isabelle had come back a few days early for classes simply because there didn't seem to be much to do back home. They were all just... waiting, and Alec had gotten annoyed with her fussing, so here she was.

Just walking into the carnival grounds, she was already pretty sure this would turn out more interesting than New York at the moment.

See, Nikolai could have spent his day at work, answering phone calls at the Arms and dealing with whatever hoops the hotel guests wanted him to jump through.

Or he could come here after listening to the radio, eyebrows furrowed, to get a look at what was going on here for himself. People were dying here. That seemed somewhat more important than cleaning bedsheets.

He wasn't wearing the goggles. That would have been too obvious. But his hand was ready to pull his shades away from his eyes in a heartbeat if he was feeling threatened, here.

Kathy had missed the radio. She'd taken Barry out for walkies and had left him puttering about in his lab while she'd gone for her run around the island--which was how she'd finally spotted the carnival.

Going back to pick up Barry (who was less than thrilled to be taken away from his Science! for a carnival), Kathy carried him, looking around at all the different attractions.

"Oooh, look, Barry! Let's go on the ferris wheel!"

Puppy!Barry seemed to think that this was the VERY WORST IDEA ever.

Zoe had tried to ignore the carnival yesterday, but after listening to the radio, she knew she had to head over today. Grace was safely locked away at home with orders to not open the door for anyone--it was the best Zoe could do under the circumstances.

Cara hadn't seen or heard from Surreal since yesterday, and according to the radio she'd been here, where people were dying.

Little wonder Cara was looking cheerful as ever as she entered the fairground.

Kira had never been to a carnival like this before, and she wasn't sure if this was a good first example. Everything had such a creepy air that she was tempted to turn around and run back to the dorms. But she was trying to be brave, because this was the sort of thing she'd been warned about when she first got here, and she was curious to see what sort of trouble this place might be.

Jim's luck seemed to be turning with the fact that showing up on the island meant there was a carnival. Hey, he liked them and he wouldn't be ashamed. He didn't realize things were strange at all and he really should have.

Kitty had had stuff to do yesterday, so she just hadn't made it over here to explore. Then she heard radio and decided that she didn't want to go now, but that she should check it out. Besides, she'd gone to Clint's and hadn't found him there and she was trying not to worry too much about that.

She was planning on staying nice and phased and not touching anything, though, because she'd heard about your death by Ferris wheel, carnival.

Concessions

A stand in the middle of the carnival's clearing holds innumerable treats. Above all, there is the cotton candy, which seems glossy and full and inviting.

Surely taking a bite won't hurt. Or another. Or a third. The kind woman with the beard manning the booth will be happy to keep serving you... for as long as you want.

Carousel

A beautiful carousel sits just to the left. It's an antique and intricate work. Each seat is a horse, stretching out majestically, hooves polished and face nearly lifelike. The carousel makes wonderful music as it turns, and turns, and turns...

There was just a maze where every alley was a dead end.

A carousel spun before her, dark and inviting. It was blocking her path. She could -- hop onto it, and dash across the horses, and jump off on the other side. It was easy.

The carousel was spinning too fast. The revolutions were making her dizzy. She was just going to stop here, at the center. Just for a moment. Just a moment.

Mirror Maze

It's a hall of mirrors, bent in a hundred different ways. The light bounces off each one, back and forth - can you find your way out? Or will you be distracted by what you see?

Ichabod stopped briefly at the hall of mirrors, but didn't stay long. After just look in the first mirror, which showed him all warped and distorted, he exclaimed:

"What hellish form of torment is this?"

Shooting Alley

The man who staffs this alley has a crooked smile and plenty of rifles to hand out. Behind him is a row of targets, moving back and forth: little wooden ducks and tigers and snakes and lions dance back and forth, waiting for your attention. Or... did one of those just hiss?

[[ the targets will come to life if you try to shoot them, growing larger and attacking you. they might be wood, but they have sharp claws and teeth ]]

Driven mad by the laughter in his head, Bruce stumbled his way toward the shooting gallery. He could see the ducks, hissing at him! The lions, too, so much hissing! The snakes were weirdly silent. HE COULD HEAR THEM THINKING ABOUT HISSING. Hisses were laughter, laughter was hissing, all of it clanging around in his head like a duck.

Until he picked up a gun, aimed at a duck, and fired.

The gun backfired and broke, sending gun pieces through his head. As Bruce fell back, his last thoughts were that the backfire sure sounded like the gun hissing laughter at him.

Fortune Teller

Hidden in a tent of her own, the fortune teller awaits. She may look like any charlatan you meet on the street, but nothing is less true. What she sees in her crystal ball may well come true...

A fortune teller. Probably a traveler faking an Eastern European accent who would tell her about a mysterious handsome stranger and how she was about to come into some money.

"All right," she said, smiling at the woman. "I'd like my fortune, please."

She held her hand out for the woman to examine.

Ferris Wheel

This ferris wheel is somewhat old-fashioned, and not nearly as grand as the likes of it built today. But it reaches high in the sky, and it keeps rolling, rolling, waiting for more to enter and get a good view of the island and its surroundings.

[[ the ferris wheel will come loose or spin out of control periodically, killing or hurting those inside. ]]

Knife Thrower

A man stands in one corner of the carnival, flipping knives. Ahead sits a wooden target, at which he sometimes throws his knives. Just a harmless attraction - unless you'd like to join it.

I lost wifi yesterday, so Kathy didn't play in the carnival. Should I ping her into the bad guy attractions anyway, or play out her immersion today?
