The Park, All Day Saturday

On Saturday morning, the smell of cotton candy permeated the island once again as the booths at Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show began to turn on and light up. There were more attractions to see today than there had been yesterday, and wasn't that just wonderful?

There was plenty of room for even more shows, if today's visitors weren't careful.

Once everything was ready, the tall man with the dark mustache stepped through the main arch again to survey the grounds and, seemingly finding everything satisfactory, he disappeared back into the small tent away from the grounds.

The carnival was open, offering more merriment and delight... and likely some terror as well.

Was Tamsin relieved that those ravens were just smoke? Don't be stupid. She knew the difference between raven Fae and fake ravens.

She blamed the carnival for making her think of it at all. Ugh. Creepy.

"It's relevant," she said flatly. "See, it's my job to figure out what happened to you and when."

"Then I'm very sorry, dear lady, that your job is much harder than mine," Celia said, smiling serenely as she conjured several knives in one hand and fanned them out between her fingers. "Shall we do a magic trick? I know how you look from the inside out. Aren't you curious?"

"Not really," Tamsin said, reaching for the knife hidden inside her own jacket.

...Wait, damn. The school would probably frown on that.

"Then what do you wish to see?" Celia asked, snapping her fingers and vanishing the knives away, replacing them with tiny blue flames at the tips of her fingers. "No one visits an illusionist without expectation. Unless, of course, you're afraid." Her voice lilted slightly, her smile taunting.

"All I want to see is an answer to the question you keep dodging," Tamsin said. She slid her knife back into her pocket and wondered if it was also against school policy to slam possessed students repeatedly into walls. "How did you get here, and when?"

"Can't help you." You know what she could help with, though, was sending a sea of oily-looking black rats running down her platform, out of her smoky skirts and towards Tamsin. Maybe that would get her to stop asking stupid questions.

Celia was half-tempted to just end it, to bring back one of those conjured knives, but she'd always preferred driving her playthings mad, first.

Tamsin was almost tempted to drop the illusion and let her true form shine through - that'd teach this brat a lesson about Fae and trying to threaten them with your knock-off powers.

"I'm going to start getting violent," she warned as the rats raced straight through her feet. "Probably." Beat. "Also, ew."

"I wouldn't advise it," Celia replied with a smile, wrapping herself in more smoke preemptively. "I've given you what answers I have. Violence won't change what you don't like."

"Oh, honey," Tamsin said, taking a step closer. "A little teaching moment from me to you? Usually it kind of does."

"Not always, though."

That seemed like a good cue for Celia to abruptly disappear, leaving behind the wisps of smoke that had been surrounding her.

She'd be back -- she hadn't actually left, in actuality, just turned herself invisible and intangible, but just now, it seemed smarter to act like she was gone.

It really wasn't her job to inflict physical violence, here, anyway, and it certainly wasn't her job to be on the receiving end.

"Oh, come on."

Ugh. Ugh ugh.

"I hate dealing with illusionists," Tamsin muttered, as she turned around. "So evasive."
