The nicest part of winter was how quickly the sun went down in the evenings--gave a vampire a lot more time to get things done before bleeding from the ears and eyes, catching fire, and dying, etc., etc.

Finally back from settling some accounts in Louisiana (and jacking up the prices at Fangtasia in preparation for the Mardi Gras crowds), Eric was back in Fandom, settled into his normal spot well away from the bar.

Vampires don't serve humans, thank you very much. That's what Tiny was for.

"Busy," Eric said, making a face. "I was back in Louisiana for far too long. It got cold there, Jaina. I moved there specifically so I wouldn't be cold."

"Not in a good way. The Queen is making demands," Eric said, rolling his eyes a bit.

“Uh oh. What’s that mean?” Jaina asked.

"She wants more money out of Fangtasia than I really want to give her," Eric said, "but my options are do it or make a play for the whole of Louisiana and that seems like...work."

"And that," Eric said. "If it wasn't for the whole 'bursting into flames' issue, all the vampires would live in the tropics."

"Are there sheriffs in the Virgin Islands?" Jaina asked. "Apply for that, carry a really dark umbrella around..."

Eric laughed. "I'll have to look into it. Lots of tourists in bikinis there, too..."

"As long as you still come back enough that I can get away with visiting," she said.
