The nicest part of winter was how quickly the sun went down in the evenings--gave a vampire a lot more time to get things done before bleeding from the ears and eyes, catching fire, and dying, etc., etc.

Finally back from settling some accounts in Louisiana (and jacking up the prices at Fangtasia in preparation for the Mardi Gras crowds), Eric was back in Fandom, settled into his normal spot well away from the bar.

Vampires don't serve humans, thank you very much. That's what Tiny was for.

Luke pointed at Anakin. "The broody one with the hair."

"Of course he is."

Really, Kanan's takeaway here was that the island had some sort of inexplicable obsession for Skywalkers. Why were you like this, Fandom? Why?

"So, uh, what's that like?"

You know. Being somebody's kid, or something? Family conversation was so beyond him.

Luke laughed. "Can I say complicated?" he asked. "Anakin's my real father, but do to time...stuff, he looks only a little older than me. I have a niece and a son from different timelines running around, too--the son now has a kid of his own, which is really weird, and that guy over there--" he pointed at Cade, "glowers at me all the time. I've never asked why. It's usually better not to ask, you know?"

"I've had a lot of people stare at me like they're trying to place my face before," Kanan noted, laughing a little as well. Luke's own good humor was contagious, apparently, "but the glowering thing is new."

He glanced toward Cade and smirked, anyway.

"He looks like a charming guy."

The pot was doing an awful lot of chatting about the various kettles in the room tonight.

"Very," Luke said with a grin and a wave at Cade, who glared harder. "Well, there's got to be one in every group, right? Makes sure you know he's too cool to be there?"

"Can't help but notice it didn't stop him from accepting the invitation," Kanan pointed out, just flat-out grinning, now. "He almost certainly doesn't hate it as much as he's trying to let on."

Poor Cade. Being mocked by young old Jedi.

Well, he should be used to it. At least these Jedi aren't dead?

"He really should be aging out of that sulky phase, right?"

"If I'm old enough to figure it out, he sure as hell is," Kanan agreed, smirking. "Cheer up, buddy. There are worse places to be than out for drinks in good company."

Mostly good company?

"Well, if he was looking for a hook-up, maybe it wasn't great," Luke said, "but, well, tough."

"That's what the rest of the island is for," Kanan mused. "Or hitting up the mainland later. There are plenty of options. Even for the sulky ones."

"Especially for the sulky ones," Luke said. "They always seemed to draw the girls when I was in school."

"Do they?" Kanan blinked. "I, uh, never really paid much attention, I guess."

Because his childhood had been vastly different from Luke's.

"There wasn't much else to do on Tatooine," Luke said.

"Oooh," Kanan said nodding knowingly. "Desert planet. Bored kids. I think I'm following, here."

Well. Sort of, anyway.

"Why the sulky ones, though? What is even remotely attractive about that?"

"I think that if they don't talk much, the girls can pretend they're more interesting than they really are?"

Cade, he's judging you.

"Ah, right. That whole 'air of mystery' thing," Kanan snorted, right there with Luke in the judging department. "Think he can back up any of that sulk with substance?"

"Nah," Luke said, laughing. "He'd have a girl with him if he could."

And there went Kanan, laughing right along with Luke.

Poor Cade.

"I suppose it wouldn't be fair to say that even a girl crazy enough to end up with a guy like that probably still couldn't be suckered into coming to something like this, huh?"

"It's probably not very fair," Luke agreed, "but it's very funny."

Okay, Kanan liked Luke. Luke was okay people.

"Poor... sulky guy," he said, smirking. "But at least why he's so sulky isn't such a mystery anymore."

Luke grinned. "That's one mystery solved. Who else do we have to figure out?"

"Oh, I could make a list," Kanan laughed, shaking his head. "Most of the students are okay. I probably shouldn't pick on them if I ever want to get a job teaching around here again."

Even if he was side-eyeing Theron a bit.

"Well, you've met my father. The standards can't be that high," Luke said, laughing.

"They will let pretty much anybody teach, won't they?" Kanan shook his head, chuckling, and then nodded over to Theron. "Well, there's that other sullen kid over there. Curious about his story, but I almost feel bad pestering him, seeing as your old man and Rand have done a bit of that already."

Luke nodded. "Maybe later," he agreed. "We don't want him feeling too hunted."
