Fandom Pride Parade, Saturday Afternoon

There was a tradition on Fandom Island, for Pride. The island herself upheld it every year thus far, making a beautiful rainbow arc across the sky for the whole of the weekend. This year was no different; a rainbow, in full colour, reached up and stretched itself clear across the sky, and as it did so, a brilliant blue crept across the sky with it, and then down, until the blue touched the tips of the trees and green started to spread out, as well.

By the time the rainbow had finished his arc across the sky, the entire island was in beautiful, vibrant colour again, just in time for the parade.

Like last year, the parade itself was to start on the Causeway, follow Griffin Lane to Galactica Drive, Serendipity Place, Godiva Street, back onto Serendipity until it turned into Loon, then Chimera. Then one final turn onto Apocalypse before ending up at the Park, where there would be a picnic shortly after!

The weather was great, the island was bright, and there was no small amount of Pride today! Time for a parade!

Gather together, show off your signs or do finishing touches on your make-up or what-have-you!

For those who would like to participate in the parade itself! Feel free to just step in to march along, no need to sign up anywhere or anything of the sort!

For those who would rather watch than march, there's plenty of parade route to do so from. Maybe not so much in the way of sidewalk once the streets are actually full of people, but Fandomites are creative and they'll figure it out if they want to.

I'll be making another post for the picnic, so I left off the usual 'mingle at the park' thread here this year!

If anybody needed Sparkle, he was quietly hyperventilating. He'd managed to do a lot of organizing on a little notice, and he swore to god he'd kick Starsmore in the shin the next time he saw him for just dumping this in his lap the way he had. He understood trauma, fine, but gawd, give a guy some notice.

... That said, he was here, with his backpack over his shoulder stuffed full of assorted Pride flags for anyone who might want to wear their colours like a cape today. And an emergency make-up kit in case anybody wanted some touchups, too.

Sparkle was reasonably certain enough that the situation in the park was in order enough for him to join the parade itself, trailing a rainbow flag and, yes, pulling sparklers from his pocket to light and wave around for the march.

He still had his bag-o-flags on him, if anybody needed any. They were for handing out, after all.

Hannibal finished up all the food he could beforehand, then showed up on the causeway.

He was wearing a light blue linen suit with a subtle green plaid, and a discreet pink, yellow, and blue ribbon pinned to the lapel.

The ribbon he didn't mind; the pin was quite a concession.

He nodded and smiled at Sparkle. "Please don't kick the shins of the messenger."

Miguel didn't really have a reason to march, but he was all about support, so he showed up to cheer them on.

Breq understood the importance of the event, but she felt it would be strange to participate herself. Here she was though, leaning against a building, and trying to remember to look happy.

Lana was a bit bewildered about this whole thing, but all right, she might as well march. She didn't have a flag or anything, and she probably looked a little lost, but she was here!

"I'm not making any promises," Sparkle decreed. "But I'm not kicking anybody in these heels, either."

Because really, if people thought he wasn't going to dress right up for Pride, they clearly had never met before.

Somewhere out on the edge of the island, shortly before the parade, a single bolt of lightning came down out of the otherwise clear sky.

And now, flying just over the parade route in a bright red one-piece suit with a glowing yellow lightning bolt on his chest and an incredibly flamboyant white half-cape with gold trim, was a big, musclebound guy sporting an eager grin and waving down at people with all the enthusiasm in the world. You know, when he wasn't providing a little show of lightning sparking from his hands in time with the music.

Look, he hadn't spent that much time with the Justice League yet, but even just living at the Vasquez house had taught him that a good superhero showed up to support the community. (You couldn't share a room with Freddy Freeman and not come away with a couple hundred, usually pretty solid, impressions of what a good superhero should do.) Besides, he was pretty sure Wonder Woman would be disappointed in him if he didn't, and do you think Billy wanted to be on the receiving end of one of her disappointed looks?

Nope. So here he was, happy to lend his support, and he figured now was as good a time to make his first appearance on the island as any, really.

[[And of course, feel free to make up whatever names you want for the as-yet-unnamed caped guy, and the fact that it's Billy is unknown and NFB, please!]]

So Dante had almost not shown up. But Pride was almost tradition now, wasn't it? Tradition-to-be?

Whatever, he was there, hair dyed fire-hydrant red, wearing a black leather coat with too many straps and buckles and a lot of violently red details, jeans, and no shirt.

Someone had to bring the drama around here.

Atton was, as per usual, here to support Sparkle. By standing by the roadside looking like his sarcastic self.

He was going to give Sparkle a thumbs-up when he passed, though. There was that.

Yeah, yeah, so while Beau was into the whole concept behind Pride and everything, she wasn't exactly the most community-oriented person in the world so her actually being in the parade was never a foregone conclusion.

But this was a totally new experience for her and not one she'd ever be likely to have back in the Dwendalian Empire (was there stuff like this over in Tal'Dorei or Issylra or Marquet, or even just on the Menagerie Coast? She had no idea), so she was going to godsdamn enjoy it.

Besides. Spite was one hell of a motivator, and it would piss her father right the hell off to know she was doing this, so in the end the decision had been a no-brainer. Was her being gay just one of the reasons she was a disappointment to her parents? Yeah, and it might be forever before she ever managed to shed all the baggage of her parental issues, but this was one part of herself she was never going to apologize for, and for today at least she was going to own this shit in the most visible way possible. So suck it, Dad, Beau was all up in this parade with a giant lesbian flag draped over her shoulders ~~because when the fandom gives you fanart you use it~~.

Hernando showed up at - what he'd thought - was an early hour. He was quietly amused that Sparkle was both hyperventilating and being very hyper-productive for all random last minute things.

He seemed distracted. What a perfect time for his boyfriend to sneak up on him to steal a kiss.

Incoming, Sparkle.

Oh crap, did he have enough trans flags? Sparkle had thought he'd packed enough trans flags...

He was going to fret himself sick for, oh, another three seconds. And then he was going to blink up as he noticed said incoming boyfriend and break into a little relieved laugh before pretty much wrapping himself around Hernando and kissing him silly.

"Ohmygod my hero."

This was a good distraction.

Jack had taught a section about the Stonewall riots so she knew more about the history of Pride on Earth than she actually wanted to know. Wasn't expecting that kind of disharmony here. Was paranoid enough to keep a wary eye out for it anyway.

She'd dragged Kaidan. Almost literally when he'd put up some sort of mumbled idiot protest about not being sure he belonged there. She'd used logic against him. His friend was organizing it. His other friends would be there. Whether or not he was feeling any sort of goddamn way, he wanted to support his friends, right? That, plus the threat of tying a feather boa around his neck until he dropped and dragging him bodily down the road, had gotten him dressed and walking alongside her of his own volition.

Jack gave Sparkle a sunny wave when she saw him.

"Hi baby," Hernando laughed in reply, cuddling him and kissing him deeply. "Everything looks great, people will have a good time, and you should remember to breathe occasionally," he said alongside a nuzzle.

"But breathing is efforty," Sparkle insisted, somewhere around stealing another kiss. "And all of my effort is going into panic right now, babe."

... He was doing just fine honest.

Who didn't love a good parade? Especially since Diaz has (oh-so-conveniently) explained to her that, yeah, it was about so much more than the mushy stuff, Amaya was definitely there to show her support...even if she definitely had absolutely no inclination to jump in and participate more actively herself.

Although the whole thing just got her to thinking about checking in to see just how Kyle and Larry had been getting on these days...

Hernando cracked an eye mid-kiss and looked for a light post, tree, wall.. Found a light post and began back-walking Sparkle until he had pinned him against it. Pressing in tight, catching Sparkle's skirt-clad ass and hauling him in for a lipstick-destroying kiss. "Then I will have to do better at distracting you," he murmured briefly before capturing Sparkle's mouth again. "You could throw a Pride parade half-asleep," he murmured the next time he came up for air, "You know this. It will be fine. People will have fun. You won't have any fun until you can relax a little."

Did you think you could get a word in there? Nope. He just wasn't going to let you yet. "Baby, it's our first Pride together. I will be very unhappy if you are anxious and panicking all day and I am going to simply keep attacking you until you relax."

'Attacking'.

Kaidan was there in all his awkwardness. He'd spent last Pride in another state, having a very long conversation with a friend that hadn't really given him any answers and left a whole lot more questions in its wake. He'd had an identity and now he didn't feel like he really did anymore. It left him feeling out of place here where identities were being celebrated.

Jack wasn't wrong about supporting his friends, so he was here for that reason, even if he didn't feel like he had a right to any other reason. But his dog tags, the one with his name and the battle-scarred black-banded one, they were outside his t-shirt today. The people who mattered would know what that meant.

And right now.. right now, he just didn't give one single solitary fuck about the opinion of anyone but the people who'd get it.

Which, if he'd thought about it a little more outside his own spiral, he'd have noticed was appropriate for Pride also.

Jack glanced at tall, dark and brooding and threw an elbow right into his ribs.

"Ow! What?" Kaidan scowled at her.
