The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

It was Tuesday, and the Devil was done sleeping off the weekend. It had been an inspiring one, especially near the end, as one could tell by the music flowing from his piano right now.

Well, maybe it had been that, and 'googling how to make anaemic pop palatable'.

Either way, you could kind of tell what he was playing if you squinted.

"I've noticed," Seivarden said, half smiling.

She emptied her glass and ordered a refill.

"Anyway, it's not going to happen here."

"Good," Lucifer said. "Four years with the Detective's spawn has been quite enough for me."

"She has a child?" Seivarden asked.

"Yes, a small crafty thing called Trixie," Lucifer said.

"You don't get along? That's always complicated."

Of course, the 'trying to kill you' was more complicated, but Seivarden knew better than to mention that.

"She is a lazy, loud money sponge," Lucifer said, "But she's clever enough I have to admit to a grudging respect for her. The way she outfoxes her father at every turn..."

Dammit, Seivarden, you were not going to make him sad about Trixie.

Seivarden actually tried to hide that smirk. "So you like her? The exception to the rule?"

If Seivarden had a point, Lucifer was ignoring it. "She once blackmailed Dan into giving her chocolate cake for a whole year," he said fondly.

"Sounds like a clever kid," Seivarden said, still trying to hide that smirk. "Unless Dan is really stupid. Did you encourage her?"

"I try to give her some guiding advice every now and again," Lucifer said. "Before her terminally rule-conscious parents stifle her ambitions."

"Oh? Like what?"

Not smirking.

"Like life's too short, and if she wants something she should just go for it," Lucifer said.

Dan had had a heart attack after he'd found out about that one - and how enthusiastically Trixie had taken to it.

"I'm guessing a smart child would like that advice," Seivarden said. "What about her parents?"

"What about them?" Lucifer said, side-eyeing Seivarden.

How did that factor into the whole discussion about how Trixie Espinosa as the most tolerable intolerable small person he'd ever met?

"What's their opinion of your guiding advice?"

They had to have one.

"Who cares?" Lucifer asked.

Not Lucifer!

"Well," Seivarden said. "Parents often have opinions on how their child should be raised."

She made a gesture with her hand. "Never mind. If I ever have a child, I'll let you be a good adult influence."

Yes, she was teasing him.

"Loads of people have opinions about an incredible amount of things, that doesn't mean I have to care about them," pointed out Lucifer, currently coming off the tail of a meltdown that was at least indirectly about realizing there were people on this island whose opinions he cared about.

Seivarden could have pointed out that she assumed Lucifer cared about the Detective's opinions, but she didn't mention it.

"Of course not."

Look, his dynamic with Chloe had been complicated before the attempted murder and subsequent confrontation with just how little she thought of him now--

He wasn't going to think about it.

"I'm sure Dan has whined."

"Dan? Like the one you got the name Jersey Dan from? Is he the kid's other parent?"

"Yes, he used to be married to the Detective. Don't ask me why, I suspect it was a momentary lapse in judgment."

Long enough to get married and have a kid, but ehn.

"Oh."

Seivarden was not going to ask whether this was a jealousy thing. That probably wouldn't go down well.

"So the kid takes after her mother?"

Lucifer was positive Seivarden would understand if she ever met Dan. Dan wasn't a man; Dan was a cry for help.

Much like Jersey Dan, with his addiction to hair gel and aggravating short-distance crush on that Navy airhead.

"Yes, most definitely," he said. "Daniel was apparently not often around, and it shows."

Again, better not mention that liking the mother might have influenced liking the kid.

"Do you have any photos? Of the kid, I mean."
