Homecoming 2021, Community Center, Saturday Evening

Considering the theme of the dance, it might have been a surprise to walk into the community center and find it looking relatively classy, but a ball was a ball, even if it was a ball for "monsters." There were candleabras and dark gauzey fabrics everywhere, trying to put off an "elegant evening in a castle" vibe. Even the glitter was understated!

There were extra masquerade masks in case anyone needed one, or wanted to switch things up during the night, and bags of candy for anyone who wanted to stop by, even if it was just to sneak a peek. Or get candy in general, there's no judgement here.

There were some pretty interesting options to make sure you remember your night!

I'm clinging to the pumpkins for as long as I can y'all. I can feel the Christmas vibes approaching!

Astrid was not feeling very monstrous this October, and, besides, the worst monster she could think of pretty much looked like her. So she kept it simple for homecoming, simply going with a black dress and a matching mask, leaning more into the ball part than the monster part, her one consession to the latter being a horned headpiece.

Maybe a bit of a low-effort attempt, but considering what could potentially happen at a Halloween homecoming at Fandom...low effort might work to her benefit.

Dwight showed up with his new costume all ready to go. He had thought about just reusing the mask from the party a few weeks ago and work up something based on that.... but decided against it.

Instead he was walking into the Community Center wearing a Huntsman costume, complete with appropriately matching mask.

He thought it had turned out pretty good, if he did say so himself. Maybe it was more monster hunter than monster but he felt it still worked!

Goose was a teacher so he figured he should at help chaperone the event.

He didn’t do costumes or fancy dress and only owned variations of his Galaxy Ranger uniform so he was at the dance in his standard Galaxy Rangers uniform, at least he’d changed out of his casual black outfit for a change and he also had a shirt on as well.

Jo’s dress was very expensive looking, long, white and frilly and she also had a white mask. She didn’t really have a monster theme in mind, she supposed a ghost would fit if anyone asked.

Stark was not wearing a costume. Stark had learned his lesson last year. Maybe next Halloween, if nothing happened this year, he'd be willing to try costumes again. For tonight he'd gone with a slight variation on last week's outfit. A variation in that he'd pulled out the leather pants, for someone's benefit, to go with the new black jacket.

Belle was not looking particularly monstrous this evening but if pressed she might confess to having read some vampire novels recently and her dress was a nod to ~~a totally made up~~ one of them.

Alara hadn’t gone with a monster theme because she didn’t really understand Earth based monsters enough to pick one even being here a year so she just went with a dark purple dress ~~similar to the icon~~ and a purple mask.

After what had happened last year, Amaya was determined not to take any chances. Which meant she was keeping it simply by giving her one fancy dress another run more times this month than it usually got in a year, and she wasn't even going to risk it by having any of her fancy metal masks being misinterpreted or somehow used against her in ways she couldn't even begin to fathom and matched it, this time, with the most simple one she could find. But, hey, it matched! So she figured that was managing to do more than above and beyond, considering the cautious circumstances.

She might even take it a step further to track down Kyōraku to supply all her drinks tonight, too, because you better believe, she wasn't going to be trusting the even the punch at this thing!

Faye had toyed with the idea of doing something vampiric or, like, teasing her hair up into some kind of Bride of Frankenstein thing, given the prompt.

But in the end, it was easy to stick to a familiar theme. Fairies weren't really monsters, but she thought her sparkly, vaguely evil fairy thing probably wouldn't get her kicked out or anything. And it was low-key enough that she was already planning to pull her wings off if it looked like this were getting weird. She had heard stories, okay, and while she wasn't all that worried about losing any precious accessories, she certainly didn't want to end up running around singing. (Or, worse yet, an actual fairy, for a second time.)

"I like how the holidays are just kinda fancy season around here," Faye decided, already appreciating those leather pants quite a bit, thank you.

He had worn the pants just for her so Stark would have been disappointed if she hadn't appreciated them.

"There are a lot of events to dress fancy for," he agreed. "I appreciate that more than I used to. You look beautiful.

Troy had very clearly spent a lot of time working on his costume. Really! Just ignore the fact that it was the exact same as his sexy dracula costume, only instead of the toilet seat cover and toilet paper roll cuffs, he had just wrapped himself up in tangled headphone wires as the Headphone Wire Monster in the basement at Groovy Tunes.

He did up the ante a little bit with his mask, which started as an attempt to just cover it wires and cords, but then he thought okay, but what if it GLOWED!

And, sure, he stuck to the shirtless thing, but he was wearing his dress pants, so that made it fancy enough for a ball, right?

"Thanks," Faye drawled, going ahead and posing a bit for him. She didn't dress like this to be ignored, after all. "What, we've got the eating thing, Christmas, and New Years left, right?"

Faye would much prefer some fanciness over a reprise of last year's attacking candy canes, thanks.

Stark wouldn't dream of ignoring Faye or any of her outfits. He would much rather appreciate her. He grinned a little at the posing before nodding.

"Thanksgiving," he confirmed. He had, he thought, more to be thankful for this year than usual. "And Christmas and the New Year. Maybe there will be more parties?"

Parties would be preferable to rampaging inflatable reindeer.

"Someone should cook for us," Faye declared. On one hand, it was Faye just embracing the idea of free food and advocating for it, yes, but also she shouldn't cook for anyone so really she was also doing everyone a service but just preemptively saying she would be participating just in the eating portion of things. "Wasn't there a bunch of stuff leading up to Christmas last year? That was right when I first got here."

"I could try cooking." Thanksgiving dinner would probably be pancakes if Stark did try. Roasting a turkey and making all those side dishes was not something to be undertaken lightly. "But someone might be cooking. Or there's the restaurants?"

"There were things before Christmas last year," he said, nodding. "Candy and the bears with drinks and then things started attacking." The mistletoe might make a repeat appearance but hopefully nothing else that attacked.

Sakaki absolutely hated monsters and scary stuff, and so the whole idea of a 'favorite monster' as a theme was so beyond her ken that she almost didn't know what to do for this homecoming dance. Maybe she should focus on just the costume aspect, and stick to a nice cute cat like she'd found in her superhero class? But she would probably look so silly, trying to pass herself off as cute as a kitten!

So she went with just a kitten mask, pairing it with a nice simple white dress and tried not to be too awkward, especially since they didn't really have dances like this at her old school!

She also could not express how pleased she was that the decorations weren't scary!
