Caritas; Wednesday [05/31].

Summer had been dealing with a little bit of a jello crisis earlier that day (do not> ask), so, by the time she was ready to come into her shift for the evening (crisis, thankfully, resolved, jello shots fine and lovely and undisturbed), she was just relieved to see that Tino was having a normal day and she didn't have to deal with any weird beverage experiments on his behalf or any silly string or other such weirdness.

That was, of course, her thoughts before going into the back room at some point and noticing that the entire area was completely filled with pool noodles.

When she returned to behind the bar, Tino was looking at her expectantly, eagerly, but she knew better to engage in something like that. She was firmly ignoring having seen anything, much to his disappointment, and he kept trying to think of reasons to send her by the back room again, as if maybe she'd just missed the dozens of pool noodles, and that's why she hadn't said anything.

"Gummi worms?" Stark asked hopefully as he sat down on an empty stool that was at this point definitely his spot. "Hello, Summer. I didn't see you, earlier."

"Hello, Stark," Summer greeted, with a soft, almost apologetic smile. "I had to send Prompto again. I got a little caught up in kind of a jello thing."

Had she deliberately avoided answering his first question?

Maaaaaybe.

"How was it, though? Tic-tac-toe, Anakin Skywalker style, right?"

"It was odd but not terrible," Stark said. "There have been much worse weeks."

He grinned then, having waited hours for this next sentence. "I did get to watch Sidon ride a giant beaver."

There was....a paaaaause. Deep down, Summer knew that Stark could not possibly have meant it the way she heard it, but good luck getting her brain to think anything else.

Which is why, after that pause, Summer's brows lifted with her face going....incredibly speculative the more her brain did think of it.

"Damn," she said. "Of all the weeks for my jello to start acting up."

Stark gave her a very pleased grin at that reaction. He had meant it that way, sort of. At least he'd meant to get that sort of response.

"I'm impressed it was big enough to hold him," he said, looking serious now. "It is too bad you missed it. Maybe next week? Could I try all of the jello tonight?"

He was trusting that she would stop him if they were real worms.

"Mmmm," Summer hummed thoughtfully as she just just sort of lingered appreciatively where her mind had taken her with all of that, shaking her head slightly because that really was some unexplored territory there, and not even the first time she'd thought about it, either!, "I'll bet."

And that was all she said, for a moment, or did, until she blinked a few times, shook her head, and realized Stark had said something else.

"Hmm? Oh! Right! Shots!"

Because bar. Wednesday! Summer quickly went to dutifully set them all out in front of Stark on the bar, worms and all.

"Are you all right?" Stark asked, all innocence. "Were you distracted by something?"

He grinned again and looked at the shots in front of him. "Should I start with the worms?"

That innocent look was earning Stark a withering look right back before Summer just dryly told him, "Yeah, I was thinking about maybe getting seafood later."

Well, he asked!

"And no," she said, "you shouldn't. Save the best for last, you know?"

Stark picked up the pineapple shot and considered it for a moment before popping the whole thing into his mouth. He had to think of a proper response.

"I think I'd rather have the beaver," he told her, still trying to pull off that innocent look but having trouble. "Much better for dessert. Speaking of the best for last."

And here Summer had almost been expecting for Stark to maybe go a little pouty, a little dejected, at her very clear distraction on something big, red, and handsome, but, in this moment, it was very intriguing to her to witness that clearly not being the case at all. So excuse her a moment while she just sort of smirked at him, looking impressed.

"And we all know," she said, "how you feel about desserts."

She was going to give that just a moment before then lifting her chin a little and grinning a bit more. "Hey," she said, "you remember that one time we did beaver tails in one of my classes? Beaver tails, and....what was the other one, some kind of cock soup?"

Sidon didn't do anything for Stark but hey, the dead love of his life was a blue plant so he wasn't going to judge. Much. If Summer went a little further in her commentary there might be some very sad big eye happening though.

"I feel very, very good about desserts," he confirmed, nodding. "I do remember the beaver tail. And the cock soup. I liked the tail better, I think?"

At the time he might have said the soup but things changed.

So...maybe...not go into any further details like remembering about those claws and harp teeth and proportionally alone...!

"I think it was a pretty close call, actually," Summer's grin grew a little more, maybe with also just a touch of fondness for that....whole lesson, god bless. "But you know I always bring nothing but the best beaver to the table, anyway."

First poles, now this. Really, if you got right down to it, this was all Anakin's fault.

Hey, Stark had made very good use of his teeth when they went on that not-a-date that was totally a space date!

"You always bring your best everything to the table," Stark told her seriously. "I've always thought so." To the table, the couch, various other surfaces...

Wasn't it nice to have something pleasant to blame Anakin for though?

Steven gave a wave. "Hello, Stark. How are you?"

"Hello, Steven." Stark gave a little wave of his own in return. "I'm doing well."

And he was! Mostly.

"And you?"

"Well as well," Steven said, looking pleased with himself for the turn of phrase. "Can't believe it's June tomorrow. That's happened far too quickly."

"This year has been going by quicker than the last one did," Stark said, nodding.

It helped that he was in a much, much better place this year.

"Is June important for you, as a month?"

Stark was beginning to think of something he had to look into for later in the month himself.

Steven shook his head. "May was. Anniversary of moving here and all. Not much for June. Though end of June - that's me and Llewellyn having an anniversary. First started dating and all. We'll be going on holiday for that."

"Do you have a trip all planned?" Stark asked.

"I've never done that. Just gone somewhere just for a vacation or a holiday. Only with the school, really." Did the slightly disastrous Thanksgiving trip with Travis count?

Unfortunately it probably did, Stark.

"Llewellyn's handling all the details," Steven said. "He's brilliant at it. Finds the hotel, things to do, places to eat. And that one's hard, us doing vegan and all. He's not had a miss yet."

Steven looked at Stark with sympathy. "Because you don't feel comfortable, I take it?"

That hadn't been a vacation so much as a 'come home with me for a few days.'

"It's more..." Stark paused. "I wouldn't know where to begin, planning something like that. But maybe. Someday."

Perhaps if there were a Very Good Friend along?

"Well," Steven said, "if you ever go to London I'll be happy to offer suggestions. That one I can do fairly easy."

"I'll remember that," Stark said, nodding. "If I ever go there. Maybe if I have someone to take trips with."

A FRIEND. Nothing SERIOUS.

"Is there anywhere you think you'd like to go?" Steven asked. "Even if you didn't know the place specifically? Beach or mountains or the like?"

"I liked the last trip with the school. Very much. I was...it was a very good place. I wouldn't mind more beaches. But I haven't seen many of the mountains here."
