Caritas; Wednesday [03/27].

So, this was Summer's first pollen week while single in three years, so she was thinking thigns could get a little interesting at her Caritas shift that evening.

Good interesting? Bad interesting?

(Even worse. not interesting at all??)

She had no idea, so she was trying not to think about it, or build up any expectations, to keep herself simultaneously prepared for everything and for nothing at all. Which left a pretty big, obnoxious knot in her stomach.

Although that could also just be from working in all-too-close proximity of Tino and the realization that, especially without the 'I have a boyfriend!' shield, that could theoretically happen tonight.

Yeah, okay, she was definitely going to just focus on making drinks and slinging jello and insisting this was an absolutely normal Wednesday night, until something started to look decidedly more advantageous for her.

Well, maybe with a little help from the specials tonight. What? She was nothing if not an opportunist.

"I thought I promised you a good one." Lana slid into the next stool down and nodded to him. "Good evening, Dean. How is your week so far?"

Dean quickly drained his glass. "Never to late to start on the good stuff," he said with a grin. "And my week has been... interesting. I seem to be running into lots of aliens."

Lana shrugged. "There are quite a few of us here. Though a lot of us are still human, just from other planets."

She flagged down Tino and ignored anything else he might be doing in favour of ordering two Corellian whiskies.

"This one's from my galaxy," she explained. "Not my personal favourite, but largely considered one of the best."

"Ooo. Space whiskey," Dean said giving it a sniff and a sip. "Nice. Much better than my usual rot gut. If this isn't your personal favorite I'm impressed."

"Admittedly my favorite is mostly due to regional pride," Lana said. "Can't let the Corellians get all the credit." She toasted him before sipping her own.

"I understand you got a job with Liliana?"

"Word gets around," Dean said, still not quite up to listening to the radio. "Yeah, her shop and my line of work have some... overlap you might say."

"Hunting monsters," Dean said, not sure if he could find words to make it sound poetic. Sam might be able to to do that but that wasn't Dean. "Demons, ghosts, ghouls, that type of thing. What do you do?"

"When I'm here, I teach," Lana answered. "Music this semester. At home I run a spy network for a fledgling government."
single_man_tear: (Huh.)

Dean's eyebrows went up a notch. "Well those are two very different career tracks. Leaving off the more adventuresome side, what kind of music do you teach?"

"This is supposed to be a holiday," Lana explained. "We've been teaching Earth music, but honestly I'm learning as much as the students. I've been learning drums as we go. I never would have thought there were so many forms of percussion!"

So many things to hit!

"Well hopefully you're learning or have learned about the classics as well," Dean said, looking amused. "You know. Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, ACDC..."

"We've just finished classical music, but I don't think that's what you mean," Lana said. "Those are rock bands, right? We were just getting to the twentieth century."

"Well when you hit the 1970s, that's my sweet spot," Dean said waving Tino down for another drink. "Two more space whiskeys."

"But after 1979 you can probably just stop because there isn't anything really good after that."

At least in his opinion.

"I'm sure I've heard some good modern music," Lana protested. "But there's so much of everything, I won't fault you your preferences. Give me some more groups to listen to. Led Zeppelin, you said, Motorhead, and AC/DC. What else?"
single_man_tear: (Eww)

Re: The Bar - 03/27.

[personal profile] single_man_tear 2024-03-28 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean shook his head. "Modern, nah. I'd give Blue Öyster Cult, Kansas, Creedence Clearwater Revival a listen, stay away from disco and some Van Halen and occasionally Bon Jovi. Rule of thumb, if they call themselves heavy metal but their hair is huge you stay away from it."

Lies! Cinderella is awesome.

Lana made a mental note of those names. "Duly noted. I can't promise we'll have the same tastes, but I'll keep an eye out. I have liked Metallica."

Even if it was mostly for their lightning T-shirt.

"Metallica always gets a pass," Dean agreed, he must be drunk to have let them off the list. "And okay there's one song by Taylor Swift that is catchy but that's it."

Yep. He's drunk.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure the kids these days enjoy it," Dean said with a shrug that was totally noncommittal.

Of course technically he was a 13 year old when he actually heard that song for the first time but it's a complicated story to tell.

And Lana had been sixteen just a few years ago!

Ah, Fandom.

"Well, I haven't been a kid in a while, but we'll see."
