So, this was Summer's first pollen week while single in three years, so she was thinking thigns could get a little interesting at her Caritas shift that evening.

Good interesting? Bad interesting?

(Even worse. not interesting at all??)

She had no idea, so she was trying not to think about it, or build up any expectations, to keep herself simultaneously prepared for everything and for nothing at all. Which left a pretty big, obnoxious knot in her stomach.

Although that could also just be from working in all-too-close proximity of Tino and the realization that, especially without the 'I have a boyfriend!' shield, that could theoretically happen tonight.

Yeah, okay, she was definitely going to just focus on making drinks and slinging jello and insisting this was an absolutely normal Wednesday night, until something started to look decidedly more advantageous for her.

Well, maybe with a little help from the specials tonight. What? She was nothing if not an opportunist.

Cal looked up at the specials board and turned almost as red as his hair. "Well, I guess I need to try that first one to start. Do people usually stick to one, or give them all a shot?"

Oh, no again! He was adorable!

Although, really, it could just be a strong sense of redhead solidarity. Everyone knew the more redheads in a ~~party~~ bar, the better.

Summer grinned, and nodded, and would spare him hopefully a little more blushing by just getting the drink ready without much extra commentary. "It really depends on the person," she offerrd. "Some people like to keep it light and just try one, maybe two, and other people try to go in for the whole set. I think a cocktail's a good place to start and see where you feel like going from there.

"I'm Summer, by the way," she then offered. "This your first time in here, or just your first time on a Wednesday night?"

"I'm Cal, and this is BD-1," he said, shrugging a little to show him off. Did a droid make him more adorable? Cal certainly thought so. "It's our first time here, we just got here a few days ago. Seems like this is the night to come though."

It definitely did make him more adorable, as well as, she had a feeling just looking at the droid in question, that it was going to earn her a point on the 'not all droid are psychopaths' debate that...

...okay, it wasn't a debate, it had been an off-hand comment, but sometimes things stuck with Summer, and proving that some droid were fucking great actually was one of them.

"Hi, Cal," she said, and the droid got a little extra waggle of her fingers as well. "Hi, BD-1. And you're right, this is the night to come. Wednesdays are easily the best Caritas night with the best bartender, but I am a little biased on that. And this," she finished up mixing the drink, plopping the lollipop into it and set it in front of Cal, "is on the house, too."

Like she could help herself from winking there, either.

"Newbie special. Especially if you tell me where you're from, how you got here, what you dreams and ambitions are....you know...all that good get-to-know-you bullshit."

Being nice to BD was a fast track to Cal's heart, so he relaxed a little more as she handed him his drink. "Thanks. I've gotten the 'This happens here a lot' talk already, so I guess that was true. Do you know Rey? She and I are from the same place, though she's from a different time than me because that's apparently also a thing that happens here."

Knowing it and believing it were two different things he was still trying to work on.

"Oh!" A light of recognition and eagerness brightened Summer's already bright expression. "Yeah, I totally know Rey! She's one of my best friends! And I actually lived out on your space for a while, selling my jello shots, actually! Also not the same time as Rey, but I've helped her time period out a lot, too, and I was actually just on Coruscant, like, last week helping out another friend, but, like, 4000 years back from where I was staying. My ship is actually from your galaxy! I've got like, so many connections there. Which era are you from?"

This place kept getting weirder, but in the best ways. "You've seen Coruscant? You've seen the highlight of the galaxy then," he said. "It's been about seven years since the end of the Republic. Rey said she's from about 40 years later? It's... not a time you might want to visit. But I'd love to see your ship sometime," he added, trying to stick to happier topics. "I'm an okay pilot, but I'm really good with tech."

"I don't know if I'd call it the highlight," Summer said, because that honor went to the Archeon Nebula, always and forever, "but I did really enjoy living there."

Just, you know, to casually mention that.

"And I think..." She squinted a little to run the math, "that's...actually right around the time I was there. Well, about seven years before. I was running weapons and supplies and spy secrets for the Resistance."

Just to casually drop that in there.

But there was a pause. "Maybe?" she ~~doubted~~ realized a moment later, then waved a hand dismissively. "I'm not sure. The timelines get a little hard to keep straight sometimes. Anyway, maybe I might have to ask you for help if I hit anything in maintenance. I'm pretty good at that myself, but you never know. You familiar with VCX-series auxiliary starfighters?"

Cal let out a low whistle. "Oh, you went for a really nice fighter. I would love to help out with that if you ever need it. Rebels have to stick together, after all."

As weird as this place was, especially right now, Cal still felt better than he could remember in a while. To actually be able to be himself without worry felt too good to be true.

"There's a lot of good in the galaxy, it's just a little harder to find sometimes."
