Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

"So do you. But you always have cleaned up well."

Daniel blushed. "Um, thanks. So," he cleared his throat. "Having fun?"

"Mostly," Sam shrugged. "So, do you want to dance?"

"Um, I guess we could try that," Daniel said, slightly nervously.

"I promise not to yell," she said, dragging him onto the dance floor.

"That is much appreciated," Daniel said, as he let himself be dragged.

"So...I'm sorry I yelled," she said, putting one hand on his waist and one on his shoulder, "but not about what I said. I love you both, and don't want anyone to get hurt."

"I'm sorry for being an idiot," Daniel said. "Hurting Janet's the last thing on my mind. All I want is for her to be happy."

"I want her to be happy, but I want you to be happy, too." Sam moved a little closer. "And I can't imagine you being happy without her, now. Just think of me as your wake up call. Or maybe a snooze alarm." She grinned slightly up at him.

Daniel laughed, as he twirled her slightly. "With all the yelling, you're definitely a wake up call," he teased. "I am happy, Sam. I've got the woman I love and I've got my little sister. What more do I need?"

Sam ducked her head a little, sheepishly. "You're having entirely too much fun with the little sister business, Daniel. Especially since I'm technically older." And she figured they both needed his best friend to come back, but didn't say it out loud.

Daniel grinned. "I know. But it was only a matter of months, and now you look younger, so I get to be the older one!"

"Yeah, I don't think it works that way, unless we've been travelling at the speed of light, which we haven't. I don't think."

Daniel thought for a moment on that. "No, I don't think we have either," he agreed. "But I can hardly refer to you as my older sister when you're in this body!"

Sam looked down at herself and sighed. "No, I guess you can't, can you?" She considered as they moved to the music. "So, does this mean I can annoy you with impunity?"

"You mean you don't already?" Daniel grinned.

"Oh, shut up." She stuck her tongue out at him. "You know that's not intentional."

He laughed. "I know, but let me have some fun, okay?"

"Some fun?" She raised her eyebrows at him, then spun out and back. "I can let you have some fun. Just don't make me bail you out of the pokey."

"Out of the pokey? What have you been watching recently?" Daniel grinned, twirling her mostly successfully.

Sam bumped her nose into his shoulder and started giggling. "Nothing in particular. But doesn't it sound interesting and colorful?"

"It does," Daniel grinned. "But very unlike what I expect to hear you say, I will admit."

"Doing the expected gets boring, and doesn't seem to get me anywhere. Have you noticed?"

"I'm sure that even doing the expected, you can get anywhere you want to."

Sam made a face at him. "There are times, Daniel, when I don't think you're watching the same life I'm living."
