Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

Xander stopped in for punch too. Two cups. Totally because he was being a considerate date, and nothing to do with avoiding the Macarena as if his very existence depended on it.

"Hey, you," he said, balancing two still empty cups in one hand and reaching for a ladle. "You look good! And as yet un-stained."

"The night is young," Rory answered, grinning. "And thanks. You clean up nicely, too." She raised a brow. "Are you having fun? And did you and Bridgey get pictures and if so may I have a copy please?"

Xander poured some punch into one of his cups and set it down to steady the other. "We, er, kinda went straight to the dancefloor. I, heh, think Bridge may've been trying to make sure I didn't chicken out. Isabel got a picture on Bridge's phone, though."

"I'll ask Bridgey for it, then. Maybe I can work out some kind of tradey deal, since there are pictures of me in this dress floating around now," Rory replied. "Did you do the cart thingy? We almost crashed in ours because the Mountie can't drive, apparently."

"Ah, no, given the astronomical lack of distance between anyplace on this island and anyplace else on this island, and the fact that high heels didn't go with either of our outfits, we walked." Xander looked disbelievingly at her. "The Mountie can't drive? He has...flaws?"

"I know! I couldn't believe it either!" Rory said in shock. "But he couldn't shift and he swerved and I ended up almost falling out, and then we almost hit a wall, and Anakin's saying we have to walk back later but, um, it's raining and I am in heels and also my dress has, like, a train thingy."

She pointed at her hem unnecessarily. "So I'm thinking we'll have to brave the Mountie driving again. He told us an Inuit story, too."

After Zero wandered off to compliment people, Peter stayed near the punch. And hey, there were people here, too! Amazing.

"See anything exciting so far? Besides possibly dancing cats?"
