Caritas, Wednesday Evening

Jarod whistled as he opened the bar, to the point where the zombies were elbowing each other in a knowing fashion and Tino kept hoping for some good gossip, which he wouldn't get. When it was quiet, Jarod once again worked on his laptop, closing it when he sensed anyone coming close enough to read the screen.

A sign was posted on the door:

WELCOME TO FANDOM, NEW STUDENTS AND TEACHERS!

"Bananas are good." He peeled one, broke it in half, and offered part to Rose. "Rich in potassium."

Rose took the other half, shaking her head. There was a tiny bit of wistfulness in her voice. "You sound just like him."

"Like who?" Jarod asked, taking a bite.

"My friend..." She hesitated. She's never talked about him outside of her work or her family. But then again, who would know from here, right? "The Doctor, that's what he called himself, just the Doctor."

"Oh, yeah," Jarod thought he remembered the guy she was talking about. "Nice guy. Comes in sometimes."

Rose stared. She must be imagining it, wishful thinking an' all that. "You mean a doctor comes in here sometimes." She said, helpfully.

"Well, sure, we get those too," Jarod shrugged, "but I'm pretty sure we've had a guy or two introduce themselves just as The Doctor. No other name, even though they look different. The guy who does it now has ears that stick out a little further."

There was the staring again. It wasn't possible. One of the first things she did after arriving in the parallel Earth was to search out for the Doctor and came up empty.

"You must be mistaken." Rose said, forgetting her drink, "There's only one Doctor and he isn't *here*."

"Okay," Jarod shrugged amiably, "I must be wrong." Although the likelihood of that, with his memory, was extremely unlikely. Not that he was going to tell Rose that. "I'm sorry if I upset you."

Oh, good one, Rose, play the insane tourist again.

She winced. "No, it's alright, I'm the one who should be apologizing, I tend to be ~~very obsessive~~ the least objective person in the room when it comes to him."

"Don't worry about it," Jarod smiled to show he wasn't offended or upset. "It's too bad if it's not him, though. It would be nice for you to find someone who was so important to you."

"Would be nice," Rose agreed then changed the subject. "Tell you what though, this is the best banana daquiri I've ever tasted."

"I'm glad. Come back on a Monday or Wednesday, and I can make you another one, just like it."

"I'll remember that," Rose said with a smile then raised her glass for a toast, feeling suddenly restless. "I'll just go minglin', cheers."

Jarod gave her a little wave. "Cheers, Rose."
