Caritas, Wednesday Evening

Jarod whistled as he opened the bar, to the point where the zombies were elbowing each other in a knowing fashion and Tino kept hoping for some good gossip, which he wouldn't get. When it was quiet, Jarod once again worked on his laptop, closing it when he sensed anyone coming close enough to read the screen.

A sign was posted on the door:

WELCOME TO FANDOM, NEW STUDENTS AND TEACHERS!

Rose shook her head, "Should it?"

"I had a roommate named Rose who looks a lot like you," she says. "Though I think you and I have talked more already."

Alright, this had to be a temporal anomaly. "I am Rose." Rose confirmed with a puzzled frown. "Rose Tyler but I swear, I haven't been to Fandom before."

There went the idea about going to a place where no one knew her name.

"Okay, yeah, we bonded over having the same last name," she says, and kind of stares at Rose. "What the hell, Fandom? Yeah, so hi."

"Same last name?" Rose stared at Jaye but managed to say, "Hello."

"Uh huh," she says. "Not that we're related or anything. Just one of those quirks or something. So what brings you here... this time?"

Had to *be* a temporal anomaly. Maybe there was a rift here somewhere too? Rose filed that away for later and answered, "I'm on sabbatical from my job, I'm teaching in the local school for a while."

"My not-ex-roommate is a teacher. Huh." And Jaye might push her beer a little farther away, like it's not hers or something. "What are you teaching?"

Rose watched, amused as Jaye pushed the beer away. Students were the same everywhere, it seemed. "Popular Culture."

"...Dammit, I already took that this year. Is it bad to take the same class over again? I mean, I might know the material to ace it," she says.

"Why not? Is there some rule against it?" Rose asked, then confessed, "I've never really taught before. My other job usually just required a lot of running and shooting."

Jaye's eyes widen. "Seriously? What did you do?"

"Officially, I was a 'special liason and troubleshooter' for a branch in the British government." Rose said and considered Jaye, she didn't like the 'retcon' drug Torchwood scientists came-up with. It was either tell or don't tell and only a matter of who to tell. Something told her that nothing fazed Jaye much. "Unoffically, I, uh--- let's just say, I held defend the Earth."

Jaye stares.

"How do I keep meeting fighty government people? How? I don't get it. But um, thanks for not letting us get blown up or whatever. I know I appreciate it."

Rose laughed, genuinely amused. "You're welcome, I'm quite fond of this stupid little planet too."

"The people could use some work," Jaye decides, thinking this over. "In general."

Rose thought about all the bureacrats back in England and all the other power mad people in between and sighed. "Tell me about it."

Just for that, Jaye finishes her beer. "You didn't see that," she says. "I should be getting back to the dorms."

"Didn't see anything." Rose says with a grin, "Go on, before I remember I'm a teacher."

Jaye tosses off an almost-salute and says, "I'll see you later," before getting up to head out.

Roses raises her banana daquiri in a wave goodbye.
