Caritas [Saturday evening] Three Minute Dates!

Robin still kind of had no idea how she'd wound up doing this, but it was funny and she could laugh and drink and just enjoy her post-Valentine's glow behind the bar while everyone else suffered.

And in the meanwhile, she set out a pretty little sign.

Three Minute Dates @ Caritas
Hosted by Robin Scherbatsky
Presented by loneliness and desperation*
* beer goggles recommended/necessary in some cases

That done, she wandered by to the stage to take the mic. "So, hi. You know how sometimes you're at a bar, and you just don't know how to talk to those pretty people you're eyeing? Or, you know, you want to know what the deal is with that creepy guy in the corner who won't stop staring? Well, tonight, we're taking all that guesswork out of it! Welcome to Three Minute Dates! I'm your hostess and deeply amused bartender, Robin Scherbatsky."

"So here's how it goes -- when I call your name plus someone else's, it'll be time for you to find that other person and either lemon law them or find your way to true love...slash a good one night stand! Or a bad one. It's part of the fun! And then lather, rinse and repeat for four more times, because yes, boys and girls, you're doing this five times."

[OOC: Three minutes equals ten comments for our purposes. That's five comments per person. Try your very best to get it wrapped up in that time. You do NOT have to do these in chronological order. Do them as people are available. Just try not to Joss yourself.

Remember, if you're violent, you'll be teleported out of the club and will have to make your way back. If you can't get through all of your dates today, you can sp, don't worry!

ETA: OCD UP WHOOOOOOOO]

"Rikku?" Seregil asked, fairly sure he had the right person but it never hurt to check.
the_merriest: (just a little bit uplifting)

"Hi," she said, looking up with a light smile. "Y-yeah. You're ... Seregil? Uh. Am I saying that right?"

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"You are," Seregil said with a smile. "I feel like I should be trying to talk really really fast to make the most of the time limit."
the_merriest: (I have a Cunning Plan (TM))

She giggled. "I usually talk fast, so I don't have that problem. Uh. We should've brought little info cards on each other, except then we'd sit here reading and not get to talk at all, you know?"

"Perhaps there needed to be information we could exchange and read before the actual date," Seregil suggested. "Although, now that we've met, there's nothing that says we can't just arrange that for later. When there isn't someone yelling 'time's up!' to rudely interrupt us."
the_merriest: (saaaaaaaayyyy ...)

"I like how you think," she laughed. "I still don't get the speed-dating thing. You'd think it'd be, here, spend half an hour having drinks and hanging out with someone, that'd give you an actual chance to get to know each other, right?"

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure the objective is to actually get to know each other," Seregil said. "So much as it is to rack up the numbers. Though I agree, that would be a much pleasanter evening."
the_merriest: (aha)

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-02-16 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"We should tell them our idea," she grinned. "For next time. Half-hour dates. You get to have drinks and chill out and really get to know someone. Sounds way more fun. And you wouldn't have to scurry every time the bell rings."

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm more of a cat than a rat, personally," Seregil said. "Though I'm even more of an otter than either. But yes, I'm about ready to steal that bell so they can't ring it anymore."
the_merriest: (mischevious)

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-02-16 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've ... never thought about it," she laughed. "Being a cat or a rat or an otter. Maybe I'd be a bird, with all the feathers I seem to wear."

She grinned. "We should totally rebel against the tyranny of the alarm-thing. It's the last one, isn't it? We can just hang out, right?"

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"We completely should," Seregil agreed with a conspiratorial grin. "Everyone has an inner symbol, an animal... totem of some kind. There's a spell wizards can do that turns you into that. That's how I found out I was an otter."
the_merriest: (oooh! neat!)

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-02-16 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Seriously?" Rikku stared, and then grinned. "That's awesome! Are you still you, as an otter, or do you have nifty little otter thoughts and then you turn back and it's whoa, that was weird?"

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was still me, but I had some training," Seregil said. "A lot of people get overwhelmed at least at first. Playing in the water as an otter? Absolutely the best."
the_merriest: (shiiiiiiny)

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-02-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can ... can anyone do that?" Rikku asked, eyes wide. "I mean. I can't imagine just ... here, be an animal, and you get to experience all that and then, okay, you again, and now you know your ... uh. What's the word you used? Totem? Did you know you were gonna be an otter? Like, could they tell?"

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not at all. I was rather disappointed actually. I'd been hoping for something a bit more... impressive."
the_merriest: (I have a Cunning Plan (TM))

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-02-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Otters are cute, though," she grinned. "And it might mean all sorts of nifty things as a totem, like, about you and what you're like. And it could be worse, I mean, what if you had ended up with something slimy or weird or boring?"

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would probably have had to kill myself," Seregil deadpanned.
the_merriest: (laughing with mask)

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-02-16 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She covered her mouth, giggling. "I wonder if anybody does? Er. I mean. Like if there's some kinda therapy session they offer: 'My Totem, And How to Deal With It Sucking.' For the people who are earthworms or cockroaches or whatever."

Re: Round 5: Rikku / Seregil

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Since it's an inner reflection of a person's nature, a cockroach probably wouldn't care all that much."
the_merriest: (I have a Cunning Plan (TM))

[personal profile] the_merriest 2008-02-17 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
"That's true. They'd be a real survivor, though. Get through anything." She looked around. "You know what? We should head up to the bar and get some refills and chill out. You think?"
