The York Gallery; Wednesday [ 09/17 ] -- Exhibit Opening! 8pm onward.

The past few weeks of work were finally coming to a head, and Charlotte was both nervous and excited and getting herself worked up into a frenzy with making sure everything was perfect. She couldn't help feeling an overwhelming sense of satisfaction with the exhibit, though. The turnout wasn't huge, but nicely manageable and thankfully not small by any measure. Some of the work was a bit amateurish, but she had to admit to being pretty blown away by a few of the others.

By the time eight o'clock rolled around and the doors were open, the gallery was set up in a display of the pieces by artist, and the usual spread of treats and drinks were available in another area of the room. Charlotte, dressed in a vibrant red, milled around the gallery to make sure everything was in order and all the guests were enjoying the exhibit. She was also keeping an eye out for the artists of certain pieces, since she was very eager to potentially meet them.

The Community Showcase Exhibit was open!

[[ or will be, once I get the very extensive OCD up! It's up! Enjoy! ]]

Katchoo had gone back to her room after work long enough to change into her least ragged jeans, a shirt that actually had buttons, and her leather jacket before heading down to the gallery, where she was not so much hovering near her sketch as vaguely within sight of it, pretending not to be interested.

Murdock stopped during his wanderings and looked at the sketch of the woman. He rather liked it even if he wasn't much into the whole smoking thing.

Katchoo was totally not studying his reaction, really. That quick flick of her gaze in that direction, over the top of her cup? Totally random.

It was simple, yet there was something about it. He folded an arm across his chest and a hand went to his lip as he studied it some more.

Katchoo? Taking her sweet time sipping that drink.

There was a certain, if thankfully vague, urge to throw the cup at him out of impatience, because what the hell did that pose mean?

The only real danger about cup throwing was what if some of the contents sloshed onto some of the pieces? A gallery was a dangerous place to be throwing things.

Or shooting, you know.

He continued to stand there, unaware he had an audience. Maybe it was the eyes? Something about how that woman looked that he couldn't quite figure...

Yeah, that was about the only thing stopping her, which made her even edgier.

Katchoo wasn't pacing.

Well, she wasn't.

Shifting a little from one foot to the other and back though . . .

Pretending that his comments were only idle conversation in having spotted Katina near her work, Cal muttered a, "Nice work." And, after a moment of debating whether or not to say it, he added, "It doesn't even make me want to vomit."

An audible snort from near the window might have betrayed any actual interest Katchoo was pretending not to have.

Cal bit his lip to keep from grinning too much. "Pay you a compliment," he said, "and alls I get is a snort."

"What'd you want?" Katchoo deadpanned. "Swooning and throwing myself at your feet in gratitude like I don't give a crap about my self-respect is so three centuries ago, plus the minor issue of you not being my type."

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I was just thinking a general conversation," Cal stated, arching a brow at her, "but, yeah, that'd be nice too, if you're offering."

He did feel that the whole not her type bit was a little unnecessary, for just starting a conversation and a complimentary one at that, anyway, but Cal reminded himself that he didn't have a reason to let things like that bother him lately.

Oh, totally unnecessary, but in anything other than art Katchoo wasn't one to let a little overkill stop her, really. Someone was a little determined to make sure every male on the island knew she wasn't interested in men.

"Sorry, no can do on the swooning," she said, relenting a bit. "Though I gotta say, at least you didn't pile on all the fancy pretentious talk that would make me wanna vomit."

Amber stopped by Katina's artwork, folded her arms across her chest, and just stared at it.

Funny, Katchoo was standing over in her corner, her own arms folded over her chest, staring flatly at Amber.

"It's nice," she finally said without a look towards the other girl. "Figures though."

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Katchoo didn't say anything, but her eyebrow started twitching a bit.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ma would appreciate a picture like this," she stated.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Was that an insult? Was she going to have to engage in some truly inappropriate-for-the-situation behavior?

. . . not that she'd have a problem with that.

And this was about as far down the line of exhibits as Francine got, before she did a double-take at first the picture, and then the title-card, and then the picture again. And stared.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And this would be Katchoo, hiding like whoa against the wall in the corner, trying to pretend like she hadn't sort of not mentioned the whole art exhibit thing to her best friend.

Francine stepped closer to the picture, reaching out one hand as if to touch the woman's face, though she didn't, because hi, remember that week she spent stuck on an easel?

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
When Francine didn't actually touch the sketch, Katchoo breathed out a silent sigh of relief that was actually not so silent.

Crap.

Maybe Francine wouldn't notice?

Francine, Queen of the Oblivious? Of course she didn--- Yeah, actually, she did. It just took her a second for the sound to break the spell she seemed to be under, and Francine to finally turn around and notice Katchoo.

Wide-eyed, she pointed to the picture. "That's yours?"
