The Park, Sunday Afternoon, The Grand Tea

Mina Harker wasn't particularly fond of children. However, given the alternatives, it seemed a great idea to put them through a bit of culture. Her equal partner in all of this was, of course, the most proper lady she knew of in town: Miss Elizabeth Bennet.

Together, they organized the tables (with extra tiny chairs not just for the children, but if any of the young ones had brought along Mr. Bear to enjoy the event), the tea (of all sorts), and the assorted other bits (scones, crumpets, jam, little cucumber sandwiches and the like).

They also had some rather cheap (they were messy child types, so it made sense not to make them too extravagant) gloves for the little girls, so that they could enjoy the tea properly.

If anyone acted up too much, well, there was Mina Harker on the premises.

[ooc: Up early for Slowplay and wacky justice. Ms. Bennet's involvement with player permission. Hold up for OCD. Open for your tea needs!]

"Earth has been abandoned since the Butlerian Jihad," Leto told him. "Who are you?"

Had Earth been abandoned while he was sleeping? What Leto said made little sense, unless there was something else going on, some terrible alien power that affected time.

"I'm Ender," he said, "Who are you?"

He didn't know?

"I'm Leto Atreides II," he replied. That should be informative enough.

It wasn't, but a name was all that Ender had asked. He hadn't heard any obvious signs of lies, even though the things Leto had said were strange and seemed silly. He didn't know anything, and that fear made him cautious.

"Hi, Leto," he said, and fell silent. He watched for any cues, for any sign of a gang he'd have to deal with.

Clearly the boy wasn't familiar with his name. That was odd. "Hello, Ender."

Something about him was putting Leto off, he could tell. But it wasn't his fault. Ender didn't choose to come here, he just was.

Don't have anything to say? He had something to say. "Which planet are you from?"

"Arrakis." If Ender hadn't heard about Arrakis, they could hardly be from the same universe or the same point in time.

"I don't know Arrakis," Ender said, slowly. He was wondering about the same conclusion; he'd never heard of an Arrakis, but the adults always lied. They could've kept it from him.

He didn't seem to be lying. "Then I think our homes are very far from each other," Leto replied carefully.

"Maybe," Ender said. He didn't sound convinced. "But you know Earth. Except no one's there. So it can't just be space."

"No," Leto replied. "Probably not. What are you doing, Ender?" Was the boy training to be a Mentat, perhaps?

"Trying to figure you out," Ender said. He'd asked a straight question. "What are you doing?"

"I thought so," Ender just said.

He smiled briefly at Leto.

"Valentine taught me arithmetic," Ender said. He knew that wasn't the question being asked, but it was the answer he had. The monitor in the back of his neck itched a little, and he wondered what they'd think, if they were still listening. "As well as everything else."

Another little smile. "It might," he said.
