The Park, Sunday Afternoon, The Grand Tea

Mina Harker wasn't particularly fond of children. However, given the alternatives, it seemed a great idea to put them through a bit of culture. Her equal partner in all of this was, of course, the most proper lady she knew of in town: Miss Elizabeth Bennet.

Together, they organized the tables (with extra tiny chairs not just for the children, but if any of the young ones had brought along Mr. Bear to enjoy the event), the tea (of all sorts), and the assorted other bits (scones, crumpets, jam, little cucumber sandwiches and the like).

They also had some rather cheap (they were messy child types, so it made sense not to make them too extravagant) gloves for the little girls, so that they could enjoy the tea properly.

If anyone acted up too much, well, there was Mina Harker on the premises.

"Hm?" Charlotte had slightly distracted herself with thinking about how much she hated this place and how much work it was to pretend nothing weird ever existed when Mina asked, and so she blinked out of her reverie and tilted her head. "Of course; what is it, Mina?"

Mina paused for a moment, then realized this was entirely the wrong environment.

"I'm rather relieved at the thought of them returning to their normal age, soon. I can hardly stand the lot of them," she covered quickly.

That was...hardly something that seemed like something that prompted sharing, but Charlotte smiled, since she agreed with at least one part of it. "Ohhh," she said, "you're not one for children?"

"In small numbers," Mina said. "I feel as if I'm trapped in a Dickens novel."

"I love kids," Charlotte said, looking at all the proper little ladies with a wistful, sad sort of little sigh. "I mean, I don't want to have a ton of them, of course, just a few, but I've always wanted a little daughter or two..."

"I suppose that is a drive that eludes me," Mina admitted.

"Which doesn't surprise me," said Charlotte. "Oh! Not because you don't seem the type, it's just...well, my friends back in New York, they weren't much for children either..."

"There are... many factors," Mina said. "It is not quite simple."

Charlotte let out a big sigh. "Tell me about it," she muttered sardonically.

"Another time, perhaps," Mina said. "Around children, hardly appropriate."
