Graduation Weekend Brunch | Early Afternoon | Sunday | May 2

With the ceremony completed and the graduated officially done with their high school careers, a brunch had been planned to celebrate the occasion and allow graduates, their guests, and the other inhabitants of the island to enjoy some good food and good conversation outside. The weather was warm and the sky was clear.

Fraser had been busy helping set up since the early morning hours. Apparently, Dean Stinson had gone a little overboard with some of the food, particularly the cake. The huge sheet cake arrived via truck and, where Fraser thought he'd be able to carry it, ended up having to use a forklift to get it to the park. From there, it took several people to lift the cake onto a table of its own. It was that big. Fraser hoped everyone enjoyed and hoped everyone was prepared to take a lot of cake home.

There were also several other tables of food and drinks, ready to be enjoyed. There were tables and chairs situated around the park, covered by tents to keep it from becoming too warm.

And there was cake. Please don't forget the cake.

"Hmm, how'd you help?" she asked, pretending to frown. "Cause I don't remember any..."

"By being my amazing self, Rose," Alex said, shrugging. "Of course. You'd have been so bored without me this year."

Rose laughed, shaking her head. "And thank you to Alex without whom I would have anyone to argue with."

"Hey, I told your friend all your embarrassing secrets," Alex said before being reminded of something. He leaned over the table and flicked her ear sharply.

Rose was not expecting that and didn't even start to move away in time. "Hey!" she glared, reaching up to smack his hand as he pulled it back. "The fuck was that for?"

"Telling your friend I was attached," he said, swatting her back and re-taking his seat, "when I'm not."

"Hey, maybe I just wanted to save her the heartbreak of hitting on you," she said smugly, way too amused at the reaction.

"She has a boyfriend," Alex said and rolled his eyes. "And I'm not fucking attached. She wouldn't have hit on me. Too sweet."

"God, and she's in insane loooove with him," Rose said, rolling her eyes too. "It's sickening how they are." She shrugged. "How was I supposed to describe it?"

"Why'd she have to know at all?" Alex asked, waving a hand. "It's not that important."

Rose shrugged, leaning back in her chair. "I hear about gossip at St Vlad's and tell her about random shit here," she said. "Not like personal stuff, but -"

"Me being attached? Kind of personal," he said, sounding more amused than anything. "You must have been really afraid I was gonna meet her and bed her or something."

"Not that kind of personal," she said, making a face. "You know what I mean. And, yeah, not so much afraid. I know both of you guys too well for it."

"Well, she was pretty hot," he teased, grinning. "She already head out?"

"She's gorgeous," Rose agreed. Seriously, it was a fact of life. "Nah, she's sleeping. Too much sunlight's a problem."

"Skin condition?" Alex guessed, not really connecting a few things. Poor bastard. "British genes?"

Rose focused on her plate for a moment, putting jelly on a piece of toast. "Moroi usually are nocturnal," she explained. "And St Vlad's is on a night schedule so I don't wanna screw Liss up for going back to classes."

"Moroi?" he repeated, trying to recall if he'd heard that word before. "I can't remember, is that slang for something in undead cow world?"

"It's what Lissa is," Rose corrected. "Which is good since I'm going to be her guardian and all."

Alex knew all that so it took him a little bit longer than usual to clue in to why she was being vague and remember what Rose had told him before.

"She's a straight up vampire, isn't she?" he asked, blessedly keeping his voice low and not seeming...too freaked out. There was always going to be a level of nerves there. Always. "I'm right, right?"

"Yeah," Rose agreed, watching him pretty carefully. She knew it bothered Alex a lot still, and she'd kinda hoped he wouldn't have to put it together. "It's not a secret or anything, but yeah. She's alive and all that. Not like - other ones."

"I'm beginning to think vampires outnumber humans on this island," he said, doing a pretty damn good job at covering up his continued issues with that. He fidgeted a little, hand in his hair, tapping against the table and on his thigh before he stopped.

"Jesus." He blew out a breath and blinked. "I'm fine." And he was. "Anyone else like that I should maybe know about? Vampire, I mean?"

"Not this island," Rose said quickly. She remembered the other one too, yes, even though they weren't Talking About It. "There's a couple others I know about. I mean, Adrian's the obvious one since Dimitri and I follow him around half the time."

"Adrian?" Alex repeated, trying to put a face with the name. "The guy at the bar, right? With the small head?"

"He has a small head?" she thought about that. "...yeah, okay. The hot dark haired guy. Around our age. Not Chuck."
