Graduation Weekend Brunch | Early Afternoon | Sunday | May 2

With the ceremony completed and the graduated officially done with their high school careers, a brunch had been planned to celebrate the occasion and allow graduates, their guests, and the other inhabitants of the island to enjoy some good food and good conversation outside. The weather was warm and the sky was clear.

Fraser had been busy helping set up since the early morning hours. Apparently, Dean Stinson had gone a little overboard with some of the food, particularly the cake. The huge sheet cake arrived via truck and, where Fraser thought he'd be able to carry it, ended up having to use a forklift to get it to the park. From there, it took several people to lift the cake onto a table of its own. It was that big. Fraser hoped everyone enjoyed and hoped everyone was prepared to take a lot of cake home.

There were also several other tables of food and drinks, ready to be enjoyed. There were tables and chairs situated around the park, covered by tents to keep it from becoming too warm.

And there was cake. Please don't forget the cake.

[Mingling | Food | Tables and Chairs | Edges of the Park | OOC | OCD is up! Post is open to EVERYONE! Have fun!]

"Then have them, with my blessings!" she laughed. "You certainly deserve them. The ceremony was more... interesting."

Amusing, Hinata. The word is amusing.

"I can't blame the school board for wanting to be sure that we were fully prepared, but they could have at least warned us," said Hoshi, though she was still grinning. "But it didn't turn out too badly, and after watching everything, my dad has decided that I would get bored if I had to return home for good."

"Did he really?" She brightened further. "That's excellent news, isn't it?"

"It is! Dad was not very thrilled when I told him about my plans to get an apartment and attend university, but he's starting to come around," said Hoshi. "He's even offered to convince my mother that it's a good idea."

"That's fantastic," she said, grinning. "And y-you didn't even have to tell them some of the oddities follow people out of Fandom."

"See, a bunch of us have been debating that," said Hoshi. "I wouldn't be surprised if some of it did follow us, but other seem to think that they won't be bothered by it once they leave Fandom."

"Ino-san is friends with a fair number of alumni," Hinata said, laughing a bit. "And sh-she says that they've been hit with a few things. Not everything that goes on here, but..."

"So I should be prepared for children from other universes dropping by for the weekend," said Hoshi, nodding. "As long as we don't get syrup rain or marshmallow hail, I'll be content."

"I don't know that the weather can go off island," she admitted. "Th-That seems, somehow, less likely than the children--perhaps because the children can move on their own?"

It was peculiarly amusing to her that she'd been here long enough that that sounded normal.

"Normally, I'd say that the weather would stay in place here on the island," said Hoshi. "Then I remember that day when everyone seemed to have their own individual weather."

"I had mostly sun," she confessed. "What was your weather like? It would be hard to explain off the island, I agree."

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"My weather was weird," said Hoshi. "It was sunny but it changed to rain and wind when I started thinking about leaving Fandom."

[identity profile] shyest-eyes.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps it changed with your mood?" she guessed, not really having noticed much that day.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"I shouldn't be surprised. Fandom would do something like that to us," said Hoshi. "But I wonder how well I'd be able to explain something like that in Brazil. Suppose I'm having trouble on a test and it starts raining while everyone else has sunshine?"

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] shyest-eyes.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hinata laughed.

"Th-Then you tell them that it is the newest, boldest fashion statement and proceed about your day. Let them wonder."

Hinata would hide, mind, but it was easy enough to suggest something silly.

"I suppose I'll be lucky that a lot of the classes at University of the Amazon are outdoors or in tents," said Hoshi, laughing. "I don't know how I'd explain rain indoors."

"Science, of course," she said primly. "I h-hear they can do amazing things with it in some places."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"And they probably have amazing stuff like that in my time period," said Hoshi, chuckling. "It should all work out. I'm sad about leaving, but I am pretty excited about the future. It has all sorts of possibilities."

[identity profile] shyest-eyes.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"As long as you keep in touch," she replied lightly. "Or else you might get stuck in one timeline."

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll be very careful to keep in touch," said Hoshi. "I wouldn't want to get stuck there permanently."

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] shyest-eyes.livejournal.com 2010-05-03 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad," she answered. "It would be very lonely, I would think, not being able to talk to someone about Fandom freely."

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2010-05-03 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, Joan and I are actually getting an apartment together, so I will have a place to go home to that still has someone from Fandom," said Hoshi.

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] shyest-eyes.livejournal.com 2010-05-03 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"That's right," she said, flushing. "I do believe you said that before. My apologies for my mistake."

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2010-05-03 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't worry about it," said Hoshi, lauging. "Everyone keeps asking me what I'm going to do know that I've graduated that I've lost track of who I've told about my plans. We all seem to have the same worries and concerns."

Re: Mingling [Grad Brunch 2010]

[identity profile] shyest-eyes.livejournal.com 2010-05-03 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"And they all just blend together," she said, sighing slightly. "It's a bit of a difficult time, I think, for a lot of people--even while being glad."
