Parents' Weekend Brunch, Sunday Morning to Afternoon, The Park

As was traditional, the start of the end of Parents' Weekend featured plenty of food, benches, chairs, and coffee in the park. After all, the Student Council couldn't let the parents be weirded out one last time without a feast.

The sky was a little overcast, but the temperatures were still above normal, which was a lucky break for the final day of the weekend.

[OOC: Have fun!]

"We own Darling Enterprises," Jeremy shrugged. He really didn't mind that they hadn't talked about that much. "Basically they do... everything. Real estate and sports and entertainment and stuff."

And they owned like half of Manhattan.

"Do you get ... free tickets to stuff, or ... perks and things?" George asked.

No, George. Owning half of Manhattan didn't translate to any perks at all. Jeremy never got VIP treatment anywhere. It was really sad.

"Our dad's a college professor," Reggie said. "He and Mom are getting a divorce because he's sleeping with one of his students."

The guy was half his age. Seriously, Dad?
stars_and_money: (Mild apprehension maybe.)

"Oh. Uh, I'm sorry." That was actually kind of business as usual for his part of the world, even though his own parents were still together. Still, it sucked.

... And he didn't know what else to say, so he hesitated, then turned to George again. "To answer your question, yes. I get stuff."

"S'fine," George said. "I mean ... not fine, it sucks, but it's not ..."

Really worth dredging up over brunch. It paled in comparison to the whole dead sister angle, or the whole awkwardness of everything else. Right? Great!

She shrugged. "What kind of stuff?" she asked. "Is any of it good?"

Reggie was poking at her brunch with disinterest.
stars_and_money: (Seriously?)

"Well, yeah," Jeremy said, pretty happy to get back to a topic he actually knew how to deal with. "I mean... some of it's pretty lame but some of it's really good."

And he was being vague because they got everything for free. It was the weirdest thing about being rich.

"Really?" George asked. "What was the coolest thing someone ever gave you? Totally free, you have no idea why, it just owned?"
stars_and_money: (Even smiling can be lazy.)

"Uh..." Yeah, Jeremy had to think about it. They got a lot of stuff. A lot. "Well, just before we moved here I got a pretty rockin' red scooter?" He tilted his head. "You know I should've seriously had that shipped here. Could've used it on the mainland."

"Is it a Vespa?" Reggie asked.

It earned her a strange look from her older sister. "Since when are you into scooters?"

"I dunno," Reggie said. "Vespas are cool."
stars_and_money: (No cause for emo.)

"It's totally a Vespa!" Jeremy enthused. Hey, they'd found a thing in common, no matter how small. "Please, there's no cooler scooter. Vespas are totally wet."

A pause, and he remembered what he'd been about to say way earlier.

"Uh, that means like... cool."

"Why, exactly, does wet mean cool?" George asked.

"Why does cool mean cool?" Reggie countered. "Slang is all weird like that."

Reggie had a point.

"Can I take a ride on your Vespa?" Reggie asked, before realizing that that was probably going to be an impossibility. "Oh. Never mind. Take George, then."

And that was when George facepalmed.
stars_and_money: (Uh okay then.)

"I... don't think I can take either of you," Jeremy replied, only stumbling over his words a bit. "I mean, um, the Vespa is back home in New York and uh, yeah."

Excellent.

Okay, so Reggie was now screwing things up with her ... um ... guy that she had made out with who had gone on a date with her and wasn't a boyfriend.

She couldn't really be that surprised, could she?

"I have a bicycle," George said. "But it's ... here. On the island."

Oh. Apparently she didn't need Reggie's help to fuck things up.

"It's ... not a Vespa."

And that would be a twelve-year-old snickering at her.

"Do you always get this stupid around boys?"
stars_and_money: (See my side.)

"Hey, she's totally not being stupid," Jeremy objected, glad to be saved from his wonderings of whether two people should ride the same bicycle and whether he should even be talking about bicycles. "Your sister's awesome, Reggie. She's maximum."

He was also not really looking at her right now.
