"I'm having a pretty good time," said Ryan with a smirk. "The food options have certainly been interesting. I'm learning a lot about Canadian cuisine."

"Did you try the poutine?" Bruce asked. "I'll be honest, I don't think I'm adventurous enough for it."

"Sadly, I filled up too quickly on maple syrup before I could get to the poutine," said Ryan, who wasn't sad at all.

"Did you take it straight from the fountain?" Bruce asked. "Just maple syrup straight up? Not even with waffles? You live dangerously, Ryan."

"Oh, I made sure to get my fair share of waffles and bacon. I even tried some of the timbits, even though I'm not sure what kind of bits they're supposed to be," said Ryan. "But the bacon was worth the stomachache I'll have tomorrow."

"As long as you go to bed happy tonight, I guess that's the important thing," Bruce said.

"Exactly. I plan on enjoying myself while I have the opportunity," said Ryan. "Who knows when I'll get another chance to enjoy straight-up maple syrup?"

"Real Canadian maple syrup? It could be a while," Bruce said. "Depends on how often you find yourself in Canada."

"Who knows when I'll get a chance to go back?" asked Ryan. It would be too melodramatic to add "before my health fails," but she was certainly thinking it.

"There's always the option of ordering it online or getting a Canadian friend to bring some back next time they go home, of course. But that's still not out of a fountain," Bruce mused.

"There seem to be a good number of Canadian students. I suppose one of them could be bribed into bringing back some maple syrup," said Ryan. "Of course, I'm not sure anything could top a maple syrup fountain. They have more dances throughout the year, right?"

"At least Valentine's Day and Prom," Bruce said. "New Year's Eve is a fairly big event with dancing. And then usually one in the summer. So you're never too far from another dance, really."

"Then I'll have to see if they can top this one," said Ryan. "I hadn't actually planned on coming tonight, but I'm glad I did."

"What changed your mind?" Bruce asked.

"I've never been to a homecoming dance before, and everyone seemed so excited yesterday that I thought I should see what I was missing," said Ryan.

"I'm glad you could make it out to your first one," Bruce said.
