There was no bouncer at the entrance to the Community Center, all the better for any underclassmen to sneak into the night's festivities and pray that their own official final dance in Fandom would be half so...red. To be technical, the shade was rust.

Thankfully to the more practical among the StuCo Prom Committee, the Mars theme lended itself to plenty of starry twinkle lights and a decadant foggy mist rising from the dance floor that might just help the chaperones in their quest to look the other way when students got too handsy. That was really all that mattered at an event like this. Well, other than the food on hand and the ability for the punch to merge well with whatever spirits were 'accidentally' dropped into over the course of the evening.

For this was a night to be remembered! Even if all that stuck in the memories of the students was the terrifying spacemen floating around the giant papier mache Mars that dangled in place of a disco ball over the dance floor. Or perhaps it would be the fantastic flavor of the fiery fountain of cherry pie filling. Fake fire, of course, but the filling? Totally real and delicious. Even if it looked a little too much like fiery blood for some people.

"No, he expects me to be able to slow them down and throw them back," Ben replied. "With my mind."

He shrugged. "Dad was trained in a swamp. I think his teacher worked with what he had."

"That actually makes a lot of sense," Bruce said, thinking about it. "I dated a girl with telekinetic powers once, but I never saw how she trained with them. Probably not any way most people would call 'normal.'"

"You start with lighter things than miniature planets," Ben said, "But there's generally a lot of stuff being thrown at your head."

"How long is it before you get to the miniature planets?" Bruce checked.

"At least a couple of years," Ben said, grinning.

"Seems reasonable," Bruce said. "That's probably why I never saw the ex working with planets. We weren't together long enough."

Also, knowing Jean in a way that Bruce never actually did, she'd go crazy and eat them.

"How long did you date?" Ben asked.

"Just under a semester," Bruce said. "My first semester here was during the spring and she was a senior, so graduation ended things pretty quickly."

And conveniently!

Ben thought back. "Oh, the redhead, right?"

"Good memory. Jean Grey, yes," Bruce said.

Ben grinned. "I've found it's better to be prepared than not."

He wasn't sure when knowing the dating history of most of the island would come in handy, but it was better than not knowing, right?

If that was the case, flowcharts would help for Bruce's history.

"Just never use that knowledge for a very strange and weird kind of evil," Bruce suggested.

"I'm generally anti-evil," Ben replied. "I'm neutral on weird."

"Try not to use it for some kind of weird good, either," Bruce amended.

Ben laughed. "I promise."
