Caritas- Saturday from 8:22 on

Kitty had no reason to participate in 3 Minute Dates, but she'd still shown up to handle the bar, and because it was really potentially entertaining. Of course, if anyone asked she'd probably say something like she wanted to make sure no one got so angry at a date that they did damage to the bar or something.

The bar was open for post-daters, spectators, and people who'd just wandered in on Saturday night, and your bartender was eying the puppy thing like she expected him to do something weird(er) at any moment.

"Actually not," Victor said honestly. "I download a lot of movies and music, but I don't really have the hacker gene. I don't think taking Amazon down for an afternoon just to piss people off is, like, making some major statement about civilization. Anyhow, there are way more fun things to do, you know?"

"Like going outside?" she teased lightly. "But yeah. I just keep thinking that if I could do what you can do -- the computer stuff, the sparks, all that -- I'd just find a reason to do something fun and show-offy every opportunity I had. But yeah, random destruction of virtual property doesn't really rev my engine, either, so to speak."

"There's an outside?" Victor teased back, equally lightly, before going thoughtful. "I dunno, it's just kind of ... tacky, to show off too much when you don't need to. Like flashing money around or always talking about how important your dad is."

"Besides, people tend to freak out a little bit if you start shooting sparks at them just because you're bored."

"I, for one, would find it impressive," Olive declared. "Unsettling at first, sure, but also impressive. I get that, though. I think I just have powers envy. Because seriously, if I could...I dunno, fly or something? My life would just be like more awesome to the nth power."

What a nerdy way to phrase that, Olive.

The dorkiness of that phrasing made Victor smile, even if there was something a little tight around his eyes. He could see where life on the island, where you saw all the benefits and none of the drawbacks, would make being a superhuman seem really appealing.

"There are people who do awesome stuff without powers," he said lightly. "You could become a gymnast or a spy or an archer or something and fight crime that way. It'd be badass."

Olive wasn't always the most perceptive person, but...well, she liked looking at Victor's face, okay? So she noticed subtle changes, when they occurred. It was enough to make her think that maybe hailing the glories of superhumanity might be something to steer away from, for the moment.

"I'd make an awesome spy," she decided. "Even if I can't fly, I can Mata Hari it up like nobody's business."

...based on prior experience, honestly, she probably wouldn't be bad.

"Was she the one who danced around with veils and got guys to tell their secrets?" Victor checked. "Because yeah, I could see you doing that."

It might make for interesting mental fodder later, when he was alone and she was thinking about him and Cade.

"I could use all of the allure I don't have," she said, nodding. And she was sticking to that story, yep. "And you could be my backup, somewhere in a van, hacking into security systems and talking to me via a teeny-tiny earpiece. We'd make an awesome spying team." She tapped her chin. "I have no idea who we'd spy on, but still."

"We could open a detective agency and spy for pay," Victor suggested, not terribly seriously. "Maybe get somebody to be muscle for us so we can back you up without me leaving the van, and we'd be totally set to make a fortune. "

"Cade?" she wondered. "I feel like that's not a dude to go into business with, though. Just a hunch. Maybe Jim? And then by day I could do the books for us so we don't have to split it another way. I do think we have to use old-timey private eye slang, though. That's totally a stipulation."

"Jim," Victor agreed firmly. "Do you know old-timey slang? I know 'dame' and 'gams' and 'cool it' but ... that's about it. But I would be willing to learn."

"That's flat, pal, and if we can make a clean sneak every time and keep the hammer and saws off our tails, we can flimflam with the best of 'em and make underground gumshoes of us yet," Olive rattled off, smiling at him before finishing her drink. "I had a strange childhood."

That was her whole explanation, yep. It probably was all that was needed.
