A sign was posted at the front door:

3 MINUTE DATES

Unlike most 3MDs, there didn't seem to be a host. The zombies were just set up, all quiet, when the lights went out.

After a few moments, music started to play. A man's voice started to sing "Ooooooooh" while backing vocals repeated "come on."

The first chorus played before a voice that might have been familiar to longtime residents came up and completely failed to introduce himself. "Welcome to Three Minute Dates. I gave this CD to Tino years ago, just in case this thing I started turned a sexy, legal to drink in the rest of the country 21. In honor of that, have an open bar, courtesy of me, to make sure my name is never forgotten. When somebody reads your names or whatever happens, pair up, get drunk, and let those beer goggles take over for three minutes until this sound plays."

The song cued back up, singing, "You're hopelessly HOPELEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!" It was, perhaps, a mixed message.

"Have fun. And try not to bang too many people at once, like I'm definitely doing right now."

Finally the lights came back on. Jessica turned to Tino at the bar, taking a free drink, and asked, "Who was that?" Tino just shrugged. He clearly knew, but he was admitting to nothing.

[OOC: Three minutes = ten comments total, five per person. You don't need to do your threads chronologically, but try not to Joss yourself.

OCD starts now. If I fall asleep before it's done, don't mind me. I'll finish up when I wake up. ETA: That's happening. Final 2 rounds posted when I wake up. Feel free to start on the first 3 rounds now. FINALLY DONE!

If I made a blatant mistake, like skipping a character completely for a round or posting a pairing twice, feel free to grab me on AIM or in the OOC thread and I'll make a quick fix. Remember, attacks on your dates will get you teleported elsewhere on the island.

Also remember that most playing should happen on Saturday, but if you need to finish things up on Sunday, that's fine.

It was because Gem names weren't technically names, Dante. She was just called Peridot because that was what she was.

Nobody had really sat her down to explain human naming conventions to her yet.

"That would be correct," she confirmed, since he sounded uncertain. "The only one on this island. Probably on this planet. I assume this is where the dating commences?"

She was still trying to figure out what this was all about.

"The dating commenced like half a minute ago," Dante said, rolling his eyes. "Why?"

"I'm still trying to figure out what it is," Peridot sighed, wrinkling her nose. "So far I've learned that the bar is open and apparently marriage means that a woman becomes property of something called a husband."

She was really having difficulty processing this one.

"... I suppose asking you to explain wouldn't do me much good?"

"Marriage doesn't mean shit about property," Dante said, rolling his eyes. "Still stupid, though."

He took a sip from his drink. "Dating's when two people hang out, get to know each other, and figure out if they want to have sex," he added. Brightly.

He did not think Peridot was here for that last part.

"So it really isn't relevant to me," Peridot replied, nodding faintly. "I suppose that's good to know. Still, this could be an educational experience."

She glanced at him.

"So long as I don't make assumptions based on anything you tell me. I thought all clothing was called 'pants' for months."

Based on their one conversation.

"That's kinda dumb."

Dante was a fountain of sympathy and apology, here.

"Yeah," Peridot muttered, because she was nothing if not capable of admitting when she'd been an idiot. "But I'm still learning."

So, at least she had that going for her.

The timer went off and she eyed Dante speculatively.

"You are such a clod."

This was Peridot's professional opinion.

"And you have to work on your rage issues," Dante said merrily. (Funnily enough, 'clod' didn't register as an insult worth bothering about.) He waved with his glass. "Go have some fun."

"Fine! Then I will!"

Have fun? Work on her rage issues? The world might never know, because with one more squint at Dante for good measure, Peridot was making her way off to her next date.
