The nicest part of winter was how quickly the sun went down in the evenings--gave a vampire a lot more time to get things done before bleeding from the ears and eyes, catching fire, and dying, etc., etc.

Finally back from settling some accounts in Louisiana (and jacking up the prices at Fangtasia in preparation for the Mardi Gras crowds), Eric was back in Fandom, settled into his normal spot well away from the bar.

Vampires don't serve humans, thank you very much. That's what Tiny was for.

Atton returned a few minutes later with two massive drinks.

He held one out for her. "Still time to back out."

“You know I can’t do that now,” she said, taking the drink and managing not even look wary about it.

And she was going to have to finish it too, out of sheer stubbornness. Dammit.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but sometimes I wonder how you're still alive," Atton said, taking a sip of his drink.

Well, at least drunk Sia would be interesting.

And once she swallowed, she frowned at him and asked, “What did you do?”

Sis pointed at her drink. “How much alcohol is actually in this thing?”

"A lot," Atton said.

And took another big sip.

“Well. If it makes your night any better, I have a feeling that tomorrow morning I’ll be taking back every good thing I said about you,” she said lightly, taking another sip.

Look, he was a contrarian, she should know that by now.

Not that she would. Which he should also know by now.

"You wouldn't," Atton pointed out sensibly. "I'm not that stupid."

"Thanks for making my point for me," said Atton, who was quickly losing track of what the point was.

Sia could have made more of a point, if there even was one to start with, but instead she ended up smiling, because it was so dumb, and it’d been a long time since they’d had a dumb fight, and no one else would even dare to do something like that with her anymore. “I’d missed you,” she said.

She would have gotten around to that eventually even if nothing had ever happened.

Yeah, when she’d been worried he wouldn't want to be around her, this did feel off to her.
