Job Fair, The Park, Sunday

While the weather seemed to be on-again-off-again sputtering rain today, the island, perhaps recognizing that outdoor job fairs didn't tend to work well in the rain, had provided a large canopy in the park, under which numerous booths were neatly set up, awaiting employers to fill them. Notices had handwavily gone out advertising the event, and so the usual contingent of food vendors had congregated on the outskirts of the park, shaking off their summertime 'this is for Wednesday' mindset in order to provide cheap fried goods to folks who were swinging by as an excuse to get out and be social today.

There, the island had done its part. Fandom's locals were welcome to do whatsoever they pleased with it from here.

Appreciate the large bit of shelter from the light rain, or the food vendors, or hold off to see if one of the restaurants from town is offering samples. You do you!

Sure, Prompto already had a job, a job he considered to be the best job (after being a member of the Crownsguard, of course), and he didn't really have any intention of getting another one, but hey, there was a whole thing going on around the job fair and he didn't have anything better to do, so he figured he'd come check it out.

And considering how liberally he was spending his meager earnings on the food vendors, maybe he might want to think again about that whole second job thing. Everything just looked so good! And Prompto was never terribly good at keeping money in his wallet for long, anyway.

Yeah, she was considering a second job. Like, a lot.

While also grumbling about the rain because why did it have to be so wet?

Breq didn't really need another job, but if she found one that sounded interesting she wasn't going to turn it down.

Rosa honestly had no intention of going to this thing at first. She hated people and she hated events, and she already had more jobs than she wanted. But she wasn't doing anything else, and she started to realize that there were three benefits to actually going. One was the possibility of potentially making fun of people. Another the that Arlo 2 would get some her weird foot-sniffing tendencies out of her system for a little bit. And the third was just that she knew Blackstone had a booth, and that might mean getting to handle more of weapons, which was never a bad thing.

The weather was making the dog restless, anyway, and that little dummy was the one thing Rosa was a willing sucker for.

Seivarden wasn't sure if any talking outside Caritas, the Trooper Station and Rosa's apartment was a good idea, but as she was anyway walking past, and not making a detour, she said:

"Your neighbour is a gossip."

Perhaps that could be taken the wrong way.

"I mean I don't mind that... anyone, you know, know, but..."

Maybe she should have started with 'hello'.

Astrid had no desire for another job. She did have a fair amount of curiosity about all the different booths, though, especially if any of the business owners in town took any particular care for the aesthetics of their presentations.

But the biggest reason she bothered coming to the park today was just to satisfy her mun's compulsion to have everyone out distract herself from the need to obsessively go to the post office to check for any incoming mail, despite knowing it was Sunday. This place was weird enough that it probably still got post on Sunday, but she was personally hoping not, because that would help explain why she'd yet to receive a letter from her mom.

Sabine actually did need a job, because what she'd brought with her wouldn't last forever and things cost money. She just didn't know what was available that she would actually want to do, so she might as well check things out.

Feel free to tag in with a description of your booth, a list of your available days, whatever you want, here! Amenities at the booths are largely handwavey - go on and mod that you got a booth with access to power, or one of the ones that doesn't, or whatever you figure you need besides.

Booths - Groovy Tunes

As it would happen, Jonothon had a few shifts to fill at the Groovy Tunes; his Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shifts were all well and truly empty. And so he'd decided the trade-off would be that he take the day off himself, come down to the park, and try to entice some of the island's residents to take up a shift or two at the local music shop.

The setup at his booth was fairly simple, really. A banner with the shop's name, a stool, and him sitting on it playing his guitar. What else did a music shop booth really need?

Booths - Demon Marcus

There were no actual demons around the shop these days, but there was a Sparkle, here with an assortment of scarves and warm hats to just give away, in part because it was a rainy and cold day, in part because he'd probably end up doing this anyway when people came into his shop going, 'oh shit, winter is cold,' and mostly because one of his suppliers got a little carried away and now he had more than enough to go around.

Much like his shifts, since the only ones that were really spoken for were Monday and Sunday.

Booths - Furnado Animal Shelter

Look, if anybody thought Zack was going to come out to this and not set out the puppy playpen in front of his booth, they clearly did not know Zack.

And yes, the puppies that were playing and dozing within it were absolutely up for adoption. The dog sitting politely by Zack's side was not. But there was a jar of dog treats if anybody happened to have their own out for a walk, or if they asked really nicely if they could feed one of the puppies there.

... Oh, and there were shifts open at the shop every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays, too. Which was probably the point of Furnado having a booth here? Sure, that too.

Oh, sure, Prompto wasn't in the market for another job or anything, especially since he reminded himself that any free time he did have should go into training, but if he did go for a second one, he was pretty sure he knew where it would be.

Yup, that's what it was. He definitely wasn't here just for the puppies or anything.

But since there were puppies...

"Hello, sir," he said, because he would never, ever get tired of feigning innocence in regards to Furnado's puppies and pretending to be all proper about it. "I understand you have a very liberal puppy policy with regards to customers," customer suggested you ever actually bought something, Prompto, "but now I must ask: what sort of puppy-related benefits might you offer a person in your employ?"

The fact that he managed to say all that with only minimal dancing of his eyes toward the puppy pen was truly a sign that he was in good form today.

Booths - The Magic Box

Norman didn't exactly bring any great gimmicks with him to the Magic Box booth. He was kind of baffled that the island had given him a letter saying to do so in the first place, honestly. But he was here with a little sign saying what the business was, and he would have called that good enough, if the tiny pink jelly demon hadn't cooed and burbled at him until he agreed to at least bring along some crystals or something to make it look more legitimate if he wanted to fill those Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shifts.

So, there was a Norman, looking bemused, with a few quartz crystals and a couple of candles on the table in front of him, and a fist-sized pink blob burbling and cooing its way around them, making sure they were all set up just so.

Booths - The C.I.C.

A slightly sleepy Kaidan had printed off some pamphlets detailing the services of the store. A slightly smaller sign noted that they were full up for employees this semester but the rotation changed out as the students did so it was always worth coming in to drop off an application.

He had some handheld, battery-powered game units available so people could play while they talked, or just play. A smaller basket had refurbished cell phones for reasonable (read: very small) fees.

Kaidan sat back in his camp chair and mostly tried not to fall asleep. It had been a pretty adventure-filled week and the coming week wasn't going to get less hectic.

Booths - Turtle & Canary

Summer doubted she was the only booth to have her signs and banners all decked out in glitter, but she had a pretty solid feeling that she was the only booth to have jello samples. Hey, it was a trademark now, and they worked way better than trying to bring samples of Squishies.

She had fliers and brochures basically focused around the idea that 'literally everyone shops here' and some garbage she threw together about experiencing different cultures that was really just a way for her to talk up and promote the special orders things. And she just hoped that no one could sense the faint feeling of desperation that had gone into the sign that said "Hiring for All Shifts!" It was hard to make time for trolling at the onsen or pretty much anything else when it was pretty much just you and Apu.

Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge

Amaya wasn't necessarily looking to hire anyone per se. She was pretty sure there wasn't really anyone on island blacksmithing like she did. Still, she supposed someone else in the shop sometimes so she could take care of other business without missing out on a potential customer and hawking some of the non-custom work could be helpful, and it seemed a good opportunity to open the doors if anyone wanted to learn.

So she'd spent part of yesterday chiseling out a nice "So You Want To Be An Apprentice?" sign out of wood and fitting it with metal on the edges and on the raised letter to really make it pop, then settled in to work on buffing out a piece of her perhaps potentially patented Gremlin Armor in between visitors.

Booths - Pick Your Poison

It had been easy to decide what to bring with her, honestly, since a lot of it wasn't exactly stuff that traveled well unless she wanted to set up a bathtub here (which she did not, thanks) but she had a bunch of hand lotions out for people to try or buy, however the fancy took them, and candles as well.

She's thought about it for a bit and also brought along some of her perfumes and teas. Just to give people and idea of the variety she had for sale.

Ino liked minions and had plenty of days available since only Wednesday and Friday were spoken for already.

Booths - T42

Hernando had set up his booth with clear acrylic dispensers full of a variety of tea for sampling. There was also an electric kettle and a variety of loose leaf tea in fiber bags to provide hot tea since the weather seemed to be turning.

He was hopeful. He had available shifts for every day of the week and had printed that up on a sign. Of course the store would ultimately have to approve whomsoever applied but he felt this was a good start to finding more help.

Booths - Covent Garden Flowers

Peter had gotten the notification about this thing, so he was here at a booth, along with several bouquets of flowers and one live (smallish) pothos. The kittenwillow was alternating excitedly frolicking along the table and curling up in the corner of the booth the sun hit when it was out.

Peter was still trying to figure out which days he had available, but if anybody wanted to be hired, he'd work it out.

Booths: Caritas

Kitty had Wednesday and Friday available, so why not come down for this? Her booth was simple, mostly because she wasn't going to spend a lot of time doing serious and takedown, so besides the banner with the name of the bar, there were Jello-o shots out on the table, along with a few zombie CDs for people to take.

There'd been a negotiation.

Booth - Wellspring Arms

Cable showed up late, bearing nothing but a large rifle, a sign, and a newspaper.

He slapped the rifle down on the counter of the booth. He hung the sign - a peculiarly 50s type of sign that read WELLSPRING ARMS AND MEDITATION CENTER in font too cheery to be believed - around the top.

And then he sat down with his newspaper.

He was going to be reading that, yes, thanks for asking.

Booths - Fandom Counseling

Hannibal wasn't generally the sort to set up a booth, but Jono was, and he had nothing else to do today, so he might as well. It would be good to have a secretary or two to answer the phone and help with paperwork from time to time.

It was probably too much to hope that he might also get a patient or two out of it, given the general reluctance of anyone to admit they needed help, but you never knew.
