The Beach, Monday afternoon

After classes were over (or roughly, it wasn't like he kept track like some kind of creeper), he put on his favorite Hawaiian shirt from the Shenanigans--the Hot Dog Bigfoots--and headed down to the beach.

In a little while, there were four fires roaring merrily: three on different grills with a variety of meats, one sequestered just for pork products, and one for vegetarian options. Steve'd even sourced some fresh ahi again and was feeling particularly pleased with himself about that.

The fourth fire was a cute little bonfire with neatly stacked rejected Shenanigan shirts placed a safe distance from it, along with buckets of water and sand for fire safety (and because McGarrett had 100 percent been a Boy Scout).

There were coolers of drinks including one of beer with a sign--"If you are from the HS and take a beer at a cop party, you're dumber than we thought and are v sad for you"--as the only disincentive.

Come on down, Fandom! Say goodbye to the summer. Eat food, drink beer, get rid of polyblend if that's your thing...

Oh look! The girl Jaina absolutely recognized for Reasons!

"Self me guess, you're Jane?"

Reasons.

"Ah, yes. That would be me," Jane replied with a confused smile. "Is this one of those alternate reality things?"

"Yeah, it is," Jaina said. "I knew there was someone here named Jane who looked like my grandmother. Sorry."

"Grandmother?" Jane repeated with her eyebrows shooting up. "Wow. That's um."

Something she hadn't expected to hear!

"Yeah, I know," Jaina said, sympathetic. "If it helps my actual granddaughter was here for a while so I get it. I'm Jaina."

"Jane," she replied. "Which you already know. Is that a common thing? Random family members?"

"It is in my family, anyway," Jaina said. "There are a few spread out over some generations here."

So this might not be the last meeting like this!

"I think it happens for other people, too."

The Summers? Was it the Summers?

"That has to get confusing."

When they were around, yes!

"You get used to it," Jaina said, but was still eyeing her enough to say, "You're not from space, though, right?"

"...it's complicated?" Thanks, Marvel. "But mostly earth?"

"Mostly Earth," Jaina repeated.

"Asgard," Jane said, playing it cool. "It used to be a realm... planet. Thing."

"Never heard of it, but once we start talking realms we're probably not related then." Had to check! "Realm planet things are new to me."

"It's still a little confusing to me," Jane replied. "It doesn't help that they're now in Iceland here on Earth."

"That's newer to me. Is it a living realm planet?"

Again, had to ask, they had one of those where she lived.

"Yes? Yes." Jane said slowly. "Valhalla is the non-living realm. Or where they apparently go when they die in battle."

"I thought Valhalla was a Norse thing," Jaina said.

"So is Asgard. And... Thor," she said, gesturing at herself.

Jaina frowned. "Wait."

"It's kind of more a title, but since he's off in space..." And she was here. Doing the Thor thing.

"Huh. Good for you," she said.

Not Grandma was a god or whatever, apparently.

"Thank you," Jane replied. "I grew a whole foot with it and got these muscles in the deal."

Aw yeah, gun show time.

"You grew a foot?" said tiny, tiny Jaina. Unfair!

"I'm normally more your height than this." That you could blame on your grandma, Jaina. Not Jane.

"What the hell," Jaina said. "Sorry. Good for you again. But what the hell."
