After classes were over (or roughly, it wasn't like he kept track like some kind of creeper), he put on his favorite Hawaiian shirt from the Shenanigans--the Hot Dog Bigfoots--and headed down to the beach.

In a little while, there were four fires roaring merrily: three on different grills with a variety of meats, one sequestered just for pork products, and one for vegetarian options. Steve'd even sourced some fresh ahi again and was feeling particularly pleased with himself about that.

The fourth fire was a cute little bonfire with neatly stacked rejected Shenanigan shirts placed a safe distance from it, along with buckets of water and sand for fire safety (and because McGarrett had 100 percent been a Boy Scout).

There were coolers of drinks including one of beer with a sign--"If you are from the HS and take a beer at a cop party, you're dumber than we thought and are v sad for you"--as the only disincentive.

Come on down, Fandom! Say goodbye to the summer. Eat food, drink beer, get rid of polyblend if that's your thing...

"That actually sounds really good," she admitted, peering over at the pizza. "Did you make it?"

"I did, yeah!" Raiden confirmed enthusiastically. "It's one of the Labor Day specials."

"Then I'll have to give it a try," she replied with a smile. "Thank you!"

"You're welcome!" Raiden said, because Alastair would cry if he didn't have manners. "So how're you settling in?" Aside from chatting with the guy who looked like your ex.

It was fine. Everything as fine.

"Well, the weird, fake fires didn't scare me off from the place, so I think I'm settling in well," she said around a slice of pizza. "What about yourself?"

"Yeah, that was...that was a little concerning in a kitchen," Raiden said. "I kept worrying I was missing a real fire somewhere."

"I tried to stay in my apartment for some of those weird things." Did it help? Eh. Debatable.

"Probably a good idea," Raiden agreed. "Oh! My brother said he slept through your class? He does that." Had he told her that? He thought so, but with Gray it never hurt to be sure. People got annoyed sometimes.

"He seemed very nice," she assured him. "You warned me about that at least, so I didn't take it personally."

"He really can't help it," Raiden said apologetically. "Poor little guy." Anyway. "So how do you like the pizza?" Lie if you had to, Jane.

"It's really good," she said honestly. Because it wasn't the hot dog monstrosity and also carbs.

Maybe the hot dog monstrosity would be delicious if you just tried it, Jane.

"Oh, good!" Raiden said, clearly relieved. "I always worry when I try something new that people aren't gonna like it."

NEVER.

"Well, giving it a try is always good even if it doesn't work out. You won't know unless you try, you know."

"That's how I look at things," Raiden agreed cheerfully. "You could miss out on a new favorite thing because you're like, 'sounds weird.' You've gotta at least try stuff...which is how I found myself running a restaurant."

"That's how I found myself a doctor of astrophysics," she joked. "And now presently a... semi-god type thing."

"Oh," Raiden said, "I just assumed you were born like that." You know. Like him.

Then the first part caught up and he said, "Shut up, doctor of astrophysics, what? That's incredible!" What was she even doing talking to his dumb ass? Then he looked very confused. "Is Gray taking an astrophysics class?"

Well, that was sweet enough that Jane couldn't help but smile at it. "No, no, no. It's a class on Heroism. Which I'm learning along with my class, really. And, you know, magic hammer that caused the god thing."

Oh, yeah, more waving around of Mjolnir.

Raiden eyed the hammer warily. "The hammer made you into a god," he echoed as he studied it. "So, uh, what's that thing made out of, anyway?"

"Uru? Which is not a material that translates to anything outside of... Asgard things, I think."

It wasn't vibranium, after all.

"Celestial steel," he said with a nod. "Sort of. Right? You could hit me with it to be sure. If I don't get back up then it's definitely celestial--actually this is sounding like a worse idea the longer I talk."

"I... do you want me to? Because that sounds like it wouldn't be great if it worked?" Also, you provided pizza, Raiden!

Raiden eyed the hammer. Between its size and Jane's biceps, he was pretty sure it could really hurt him. "Yeah, no. That would be bad, actually. Let's just assume it's celestial steel, maybe."

"Are you also a god... type person then?" Jane asked hopefully.

"Oh, no," Raiden said. "I'm a Nephilim."

"That's an... angel?" Look, she hadn't really been a religious person before dating the Norse God.
