After classes were over (or roughly, it wasn't like he kept track like some kind of creeper), he put on his favorite Hawaiian shirt from the Shenanigans--the Hot Dog Bigfoots--and headed down to the beach.

In a little while, there were four fires roaring merrily: three on different grills with a variety of meats, one sequestered just for pork products, and one for vegetarian options. Steve'd even sourced some fresh ahi again and was feeling particularly pleased with himself about that.

The fourth fire was a cute little bonfire with neatly stacked rejected Shenanigan shirts placed a safe distance from it, along with buckets of water and sand for fire safety (and because McGarrett had 100 percent been a Boy Scout).

There were coolers of drinks including one of beer with a sign--"If you are from the HS and take a beer at a cop party, you're dumber than we thought and are v sad for you"--as the only disincentive.

Come on down, Fandom! Say goodbye to the summer. Eat food, drink beer, get rid of polyblend if that's your thing...

"Like fire bouncers?" Eddie asked with an amused little smirk.

"More than we usually do," Buck pointed out.

"...okay, that's true," Eddie said with a sigh that said he'd gladly take a terrible natural disaster right about now.

Well, not now. Because Chris was there too.

"It wasn't fair the fires last week were fake," he grumbled. "That's not fun to put out."

"Right?" Eddie agreed readily. "It's like we're being taunted."

Which was plausible here, actually.

"One day," Buck said. "One day we'll get our chance. This whole town will be on fire or something."

"We got to rescue that guy from the creepy portal," Eddie pointed out. "That was pretty cool."

"It was," Buck agreed. "Should we still be keeping an eye out for those portals? They seemed kind of dangerous. And gross."

And wet. Squelchy, even.

Moist. So many words that were just uncomfortable.

"It might not hurt. Give us something to do during our shifts."

"True," he said. "Maybe we'll find another half-dead roadie."

"We'll bring our first aid supplies to not sacrifice anymore shirts." And really upset the island with the lack of shirtlessness.

"That's just smart," Buck said. "Though I feel like we should bring some flashlights too 'cause that portal looked dark. I mean, aside from the ominous red light."

Oh lord, if these two ended up in the Upside Down it'd be all over for Hawkins.

"Flashlights are good!" Eddie agreed. "Probably some basic masks too. Who knows what germs or chemicals are in there."

"Wait, hold on," Buck said. "So, hypothetically, we find one of these things. You're okay with us just going in it? So long as we have flashlights and masks?"

And goggles. Goggles would make them look super cool.

"...I mean. Maybe." There was no one there to stop their shared brain cell and he was so bored, Buck.
