The Beach, Monday afternoon

After classes were over (or roughly, it wasn't like he kept track like some kind of creeper), he put on his favorite Hawaiian shirt from the Shenanigans--the Hot Dog Bigfoots--and headed down to the beach.

In a little while, there were four fires roaring merrily: three on different grills with a variety of meats, one sequestered just for pork products, and one for vegetarian options. Steve'd even sourced some fresh ahi again and was feeling particularly pleased with himself about that.

The fourth fire was a cute little bonfire with neatly stacked rejected Shenanigan shirts placed a safe distance from it, along with buckets of water and sand for fire safety (and because McGarrett had 100 percent been a Boy Scout).

There were coolers of drinks including one of beer with a sign--"If you are from the HS and take a beer at a cop party, you're dumber than we thought and are v sad for you"--as the only disincentive.

Come on down, Fandom! Say goodbye to the summer. Eat food, drink beer, get rid of polyblend if that's your thing...

Yeah, the imminent ones were actually the holidays Watts was somewhat more familiar with. For an extremely loose value of 'familiar', but. "Well. It would be nice," he agreed. "If there was- something here."

Steven bumped their shoulders again. "I would love to wish you a sweet new year, Llewellyn Watts."

"Yeah?" said with a smile, but there was something a little uncertain behind it.

"Of course." Steven looked up at him curiously. "Did you think I wanted your new year to be horrible?"

"Of course not," Watts said.

But that uncertainty was tied in with that 'IDENTITY' suitcase that had kept popping up on Monday.

Steven stood in front of him, a little closer than they had been so he could look Llewellyn in the eye. "Of course you're welcome to share it with me. Won't be much fancy but no harm having something to honor the occasion, is there?"

"Don't need fancy," Watts said, some (most) of that uncertainty banished by Steven's assertion.

"And the other holidays as well, if you'd like," Steven said. He shrugged. "I'm no rabbi. Don't know how well I'd do at explaining them. But you're welcome all the same."

Please, his initial guide to Jewish culture had been some little-known American comedian. Steven could hardly do worse. "I would like that," he admitted.

"Unfortunately you've already missed the one with all the drinking," Steven said, smiling to show he was joking a little. "But we've that to look forward to for next year."

Watts was far more focused on the combination of we and next year anyway. "Nice to have something to look forward to," he acknowledged.

It was nice that he did since Steven did combine them on purpose. "Plenty before year end anyway. And it's the big ones soon so may as well start here as anywhere."

"That much I knew already, at least," Watts said with a small smile.

Steven started to reach to give Llewellyn's hand a squeeze, but held off, not sure if Llewellyn would prefer to be the one initiating such gestures in public right now. "So you see? It's all fine. And we've until the end of the month anyway."

Watts noticed that aborted movement, and grabbed Steven’s hand before he could move it away again. And then, in what he hoped was a clear invitation, titled his head towards a rocky outcropping on the beach that would keep them well out of sight of any of the other partygoers.

Well if Llewellyn was going to be so brave as to take Steven's hand and give an invite to go elsewhere, who was Steven to say no? Especially since he didn't want to say no. That was also an important bit.

Point being he was happy to follow in that direction.
