It was New Year's Eve, and Caritas was decked out for the holidays. The bar itself was decorated with silver fringe, there were gold, black and white balloons arranged in corners (so anyone trying to hide either couldn't, or they could really hide), silver and gold garland hung from the ceiling, and Tino had even dressed up. Meaning he was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt that looked like a tuxedo. It was the thought that counted.

The zombie band was playing the hits, the bass player dressed in a dashing red velvet jacket for some reason, and Kitty had had fun with the specials for the night.

Kitty stared at Tino when she saw that last one added. "There's a USB-powered menorah because fire and drunk people is a bad combination and you decided to do this?"

Anyway. There was also a very easily accessible fire extinguisher on top of the bar if needed. Don't let it be needed.

"Oh, I definitely do."

Steph tucked her hand casually into one of the back pockets and leaned up to kiss her on the cheek.

"But let's just say that after I kiss you at midnight, I don't think we're staying at the party much longer."

Eh, if the tear hadn't been there already, it just meant they'd be nice and ventilated when summer rolled around. Besides, Steph felt it really added something to the look, at least when Vi was wearing them.

Vi grinned and turned her head to steal a proper kiss.

"Oh, you don't do you?" Despite her teasing tone, Vi did not look at all upset about that idea. "Got some ideas about seeing in the new year?"

Was that something skin?

Steph laughed, low and a little bit smug, against her lips.

"Got more than a few ideas maybe, yeah," she replied. "Something something starting the year off with a bang. Or ten."

Steph.

...also yes. Yes, that something was definitely skin.

Vi draped her arm around Steph's shoulders, keeping her close. "Ten? That's ambitious." Not exactly impossible for them once they really got started, though.

That's what happened when your inadvertent clothing choices left very little to the imagination.

Steph snuggled into her side happily. "It's the start of a new year, baby. Why half-ass it when we can shoot for the moon?" It was fine. They didn't have to be anywhere tomorrow anyway, right?

Not that Steph's fertile imagination needed a whole lot to work with in the first place, but it always did appreciate getting a night off.

Besides, it was always good to start the year as you meant to go on.

"Hey, I always intend on putting my whole ass in when it comes to you."

It was a good habit! Setting the tone and all that.

"I have absolutely no doubt that you will, my love," Steph said, grinning. "You always have."

Don't mind her lovingly patting said ass.

And they were nothing if a font of good habits. Or something.

Vi grinned and looked down where Steph's hand was. "Should I leave you two alone?"

Well, they definitely had their habits. Whether they were good or bad was entirely subjective.

"We are behaving ourselves for now," Steph said with a dramatic sigh. "I guess."

And there were certain parties whose opinion on the matter should not be sought at all.

"Good, because there'd be consequences if you weren't." Vi was was not behaving herself.

"We are making it to midnight," Steph said through clenched teeth, looking determined but also a tiny bit desperate. "We are going to count down to zero, yell 'happy new year,' kiss while the glitter falls, and then we are going right the fuck home to really celebrate."

"Sounds like a plan," Vi agreed easily, because teasing aside, she did like the idea of Steph kissing her and staking a claim in the middle of a crowd like that.

Which she had every intention of doing, yes.

Steph grinned and reached up to run her fingers through Vi's hair. "Excellent. Love you."

Vi smiled and leaned into her touch. "Love you too."
