Parents Weekend Brunch - Sunday morning in the park

Harvey didn't have too much trouble arranging the brunch in the park. Between the help of the rest of the StuCo members and oddly enough, Marshall (apparently he had a thing for brunch), Harvey hardly had to do a thing. And isn't that what being president is really about?

There was a harvest theme in the tent, with the tablecloths and napkins all in reds, yellows and oranges. Marshall even hand-made the autumn-themed centerpieces on the tables. There was also, of course, every kind of brunch food imaginable set up at the buffet table. There was probably even foods there that didn't even qualify as brunch. Harvey had a hankering for pizza earlier.

A sign was posted outside the tent:

Liz watched Jess walk away, and finished filling up her plate, grabbing a second, empty plate, before going over to the table and setting everything down. "So, do you wanna tell me what happened with Luke?" she asked.

"Not particularly," Jess replied, moving his feet so she could sit down. "I figured Luke told you all about it."

"I haven't really talked to him," she said, sitting down and starting to divide the food. "He told me you'd left, and he didn't know where you were, and I told him not to worry. I knew you'd take care of yourself. But we didn't talk again after that, and when I asked him last night, he said to ask you. So I'm asking."

Jess didn't know if Luke had said that because he wanted to make Jess talk, or because he wasn't actually sure why Jess had left. "I left so Luke didn't have to kick me out," he said. "I didn't pass senior year and everyone in town hated me as much as I hated them."

Liz slid one of the plates over to Jess. At least then, she could say she'd tried to make him eat. "You really think Luke would have kicked you out? Honey, you could have killed people, and he wouldn't have kicked you out. Okay, maybe he would have, but he'd pack you a lunch for the trip."

"It wasn't just that. I couldn't stand that place. I had to get out, or I might have actually killed someone."

"Yeah, I know it can really suck sometimes," Liz said.

"And yet, you sent me there anyway," Jess replied.

"I sent you to Luke," Liz said. "I would have sent you anywhere he was. I thought he'd be good for you. You know, a strong male role model."

"Oh yeah, I should totally grow up and run a diner that caters to people who have no respect for me so I can meddle in their lives even when they don't want it," Jess replied.

"Hey, don't knock that diner," Liz said, ignoring the meddling part since hi, it was Luke they were talking about. "Luke runs his own business. He's his own boss, he doesn't have anyone making the rules for him. And the people in Stars Hollow love him. Except for Taylor, but he doesn't count." When Jess snickered, it made Liz feel a little better, knowing that he wasn't tuning her out. "I just wanted you to know that's possible for you too."

"Not for me," Jess said, shaking his head. "Especially not in a place like Stars Hollow."

"I didn't say you had to be there," Liz said, before brightening in realization. "I didn't tell you yet, did I? I'm working for myself too."

"You are?" Jess asked, unable to hide his surprise.

"Yeah!" She held out her arm and dangled it in front of him, showing off the bracelet she was wearing. "I'm making jewelry. It's been selling big at Renaissance faires."

"Seriously?" Jess laughed and held her arm so he could get a look at the bracelet. "That's pretty good."

"Thank you. I think so too," Liz said. "Aside from not getting to talk to you as much as I want to, things are going really well for me. Really well," she added leadingly.

Realizing what she was getting at, Jess dropped her arm and sighed. "What's his name?"

"TJ," Liz said, grinning. "I wish he could have come with me, I want you to meet him."

"Yeah, well, I'm sure I will if he sticks around long enough," Jess replied dryly.

"He's a good guy. He's been helping me with my business," Liz said. "I think he might be a keeper."

"If you expect me to believe that after all the other guys you've claimed were keepers, I think I might be insulted."

"TJ's different, you'll see," Liz said. "Maybe you can meet him if you come home for the holidays. You get a break, don't you?"

"Yeah, there's a break. Which home are you talking about?" Jess asked.

"The city," Liz said. "You can meet TJ and we can go from there to bug Luke and do something like a whole family."
