Parents Weekend Brunch - Sunday morning in the park

Harvey didn't have too much trouble arranging the brunch in the park. Between the help of the rest of the StuCo members and oddly enough, Marshall (apparently he had a thing for brunch), Harvey hardly had to do a thing. And isn't that what being president is really about?

There was a harvest theme in the tent, with the tablecloths and napkins all in reds, yellows and oranges. Marshall even hand-made the autumn-themed centerpieces on the tables. There was also, of course, every kind of brunch food imaginable set up at the buffet table. There was probably even foods there that didn't even qualify as brunch. Harvey had a hankering for pizza earlier.

A sign was posted outside the tent:

"What the fuck do girls have to do with you being a jackass in public?" Ichigo growled.

"Watch your language!" Isshin responded back, absolutely ignoring the question as a whole. "No wonder the little clinic girl is satisfied with being 'just friends' with such a foul-mouthed ingrate!"

"She has a name, you know!" Ichigo shouted back. He had no idea why that was the thing he was latching on to.

"Well, if my son would ever write to his father about his life, maybe I'd know what her name was!"

That, and Isshin had never exactly managed to find a way to ask. It seemed that just coming out and asking was far too simple for his style.

Ichigo made a face. "Her name's Ino," he said. "What did you call her when you went to the clinic?"

Isshin took a moment to rewind through his version of the encounter, which was not, in fact, much like that actual encounter. He did get one thing right, though. "I think I got a little lady in at one point," he offered.

Not, of course, that it was any of Ichigo's business!

"And she didn't kick you?" He really wished she had.

"Nope!" Isshin preened happily at this face. "She only told me that she had a name, thank you, but then very rudely didn't bother to give it!"

"Maybe because you very rudely didn't ask," Ichigo shot back.

"She's the one making kissy-face with my son!" Isshin retorted. "She should be wanting to leave a good impression on me!"

"After you ask her about our..." Nope, he couldn't say it. "It's none of your business."

"I," Isshin declared with lofty conviction, "had merely come into the clinic to have a nice little chat with her and she accused me of spying!"

"Because you were," Ichigo said instantly. "Otherwise you wouldn't have known about her." He frowned. "How did you know she was at the clinic any way? Did you stalk her?"

"Pure coincidence!" Isshin insisted as innocently as he could. "I was there for merely professional reasons!"

"You really expect me to believe that?" Ichigo eyed him incredulously.

"You bet I do!" Isshin responded back with a roar. He would have thrown a punch at Ichigo if they were back at home, but he didn't want to get any of the others at the brunch involved, because they were sure to battle into people if he started it up.

"Whatever," Ichigo said in a tone that implied he didn't believe it for one bit. "When are you going back?"

"Oh, sure! So quick to get rid of me, are you? Just want to throw your old Pops back over the ocean!"

Ichigo clenched his jaw. "I just wanted you to say hi to Karin and Yuzu for me."

"Done!" Isshin's fist hit the table.

"If, in a week, you promise to call them and say hi to them yourself, like a good big brother should!"

Did he really need to be loud even about that? "Fine. I will. Happy?"

Isshin considered before answering. "We'll go with content enough," he decided, arms folding over his chest.

"Which is enough," Ichigo crossed his arms right back, as if it was some sort of stand off.

As if it were? As far as Isshin was concerned, Ichigo had just thrown the glove, and he settled in to match his son's glare steadily.

They...might be at this a while.
