The beach, after sunset Saturday

It was Chuck Bass's birthday and by god Blair was going to throw him a party.

By the time sunset arrived a section of the beach had been turned into a party zone. Green silk curtains had been hung up to help define the party space (and provide some privacy for anyone who wanted it). There were tables of food and drink entirely moddable which included Chuck's favorites and product-placed Vitamin Water as well as the birthday cake.

Music was playing, fires were lit to help keep things warm - all in all not a bad little birthday party on the beach.

All that remained was the party goers and the birthday boy.

"Mr. Priest," Emma practically purred, holding out her hand. "What a nice surprise. Are you enjoying yourself so far?"

Jack took the hand and shook it. "It's a remarkable party," he said, letting his fingers linger just for a moment before releasing her hand. "I think I might adjust to this school nicely, yes. And you?"

"I've had one or two unfortunate encounters, but beyond that, it seems acceptable," Emma responded. "It's definitely different from anywhere I've ever been before."

"Different is one of the kinder descriptions I've heard," Jack said. "But I've liked the people so far. Where's home for you?"

"I was raised in Boston, Massachusetts, but lately by way of New York City," she answered. "While New York is colorful, I think that Fandom might have it beat for a variety of people. Where else can you find people with powers from different worlds?"

"I didn't know there was more than one world a week ago," Jack commented. "In mine, New York is New Amsterdam."

Another word in what she'd said hit him. "... powers?"

Jack's world had vampires and sorcerers; he didn't doubt there could be more, but he'd never encountered it.

"Neither did I, until I read the brochure for the school," Emma replied. "Powers. Aliens, magic, special gifts, however you want to describe it. Those things that set some of us apart from others beyond the whole multiple universes bit."

"Ah." Jack sipped his drink and glanced about for a moment. "There's absolutely nothing remarkable about me beyond the multiple universes bit, I'm afraid."

Discounting the skills one picked up when a vampire devoted a decade to one's education, that was even true.

Of course, that was rather a lot to discount.

"I have a hard time believing that, Mr. Priest," Emma answered teasingly. "Nothing about you screams unremarkable in the slightest."

He gave her an absolutely innocent look. "I suppose that's for you to learn, Miss Frost."

"I think you'll find I'm a fast learner," Emma returned.
