The beach, after sunset Saturday

It was Chuck Bass's birthday and by god Blair was going to throw him a party.

By the time sunset arrived a section of the beach had been turned into a party zone. Green silk curtains had been hung up to help define the party space (and provide some privacy for anyone who wanted it). There were tables of food and drink ~~entirely moddable~~ which included Chuck's favorites ~~and product-placed Vitamin Water~~ as well as the birthday cake.

Music was playing, fires were lit to help keep things warm - all in all not a bad little birthday party on the beach.

All that remained was the party goers and the birthday boy.

"I always look nice," Sam said defensively. "Are you having a good time so far?"

"I am. Blair certainly knows how to make me feel special," he said, half-joking. "What about you? Are you still managing to enjoy yourself even though I made you dress properly?"

"Yes, my clothes haven't stopped me from having a good time," Sam said. Since it was Chuck's birthday, he was going to be nice and not say unkind things about Blair, no matter how much she might have deserved them. "The party has attracted people who don't even know you, for the record."

"They always do," Chuck said with a smile. "Usually the parties have more security to keep, um, a certain type of person out but naturally we have to be more lax here. The Mountie only has to keep Serena away."

And before Sam could give him the disapproving look he knew was coming he added, "Blair's request, not mine."

"Do you not like Serena?" Sam asked, not sure whether or not he should disapprove yet. "I got that she's involved in your little group, but I don't get why it's bad that she's here."

"Serena's my sister," Chuck non-answered because his opinion on Serena changed weekly. "Blair hates her. They used to be best friends but had a falling out a while ago. And Blair's the one who threw the party so what she says goes."

"Because when Blair gets what she wants, she's happy?" Sam suggested. "And possibly less bitchy?"

Chuck smirked. "Now you're getting it. Though I wished you learned that before talking to her just now."

Yes, he had seen that.

"You're not really convincing me that you aren't a masochist."

"I thought being polite to her might get things on the right track. Obviously, I was wrong," Sam said. "I know better than that now."

"I told her to be nice to you," Chuck said like that helped or something. "If I were you I'd just give up and accept you're not going to get along. Like I did with Dean."

He paused.

"Don't sleep with her though."

"I only sleep with Peter," Sam said, rolling his eyes. "I can accept that she's always going to be irrational about me though."
