The beach, after sunset Saturday

It was Chuck Bass's birthday and by god Blair was going to throw him a party.

By the time sunset arrived a section of the beach had been turned into a party zone. Green silk curtains had been hung up to help define the party space (and provide some privacy for anyone who wanted it). There were tables of food and drink entirely moddable which included Chuck's favorites and product-placed Vitamin Water as well as the birthday cake.

Music was playing, fires were lit to help keep things warm - all in all not a bad little birthday party on the beach.

All that remained was the party goers and the birthday boy.

[ocd is up!]

She laughed a little.

"I wouldn't be able to tell you much; just what the tourists talked about while they were eating at Ringos. I never got to travel up there, really."

Ah, but already he could find conversation in what she said. "Ringos? Were you a worker or a regular patron? The name makes me crave onions."

[AFK for lunch and geekery! SP = ♥]

"Where I worked. It wasn't the best place in the world, but the pizza was supposed to be very good."

She'd never had it, unfortunately.

He considered the picture of her working at a pizza shop in his mind.

"Supposed to be? You weren't fond of it?"

"I never got to eat it," she explained.

"My Mother didn't want us having it and our manager was kind of a jerk."

He cocked his head remembering the fit his mum had once when she caught him sugaring his cereal. "Parents are like that, I suppose. You've had other pizza though, right?"

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She shook her head.

"I've never had pizza. I've never had a lot of things."

She shrugged.

"Food isn't really all that important to me, I guess."

Especially not now.

He had dined in a different country or city for every meal before Fandom, so her remark intrigued him. Of course, he'd never had anything better to do than find fantastic places to buy or consume food in between karate classes.

"Why's that?"

Lovely. It is once again Fiona-is-a-freak time.

"I can't eat anything. Everything tastes of sawdust to me and it doesn't actually do me any good."

She looked away.

"I know it's weird, even for this place."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. He was brilliant. "You know, my first day here, someone told me we were all weird. I take that to mean if we're all weird then really none of us are."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
She looked over at him with what she was totally unaware was a hopeful smile.

"Do you really think that?"

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
She had no idea how potentially weird he was, so he smiled and nodded. "I do. Here, it seems differences unite us."

Unless you're Karev and a complete bastard.

She would second that and third it (Eliot in absentia) and then move to take the issue to the floor.

"Are you different, Griff?" she asked with a little smile. Part teasing, but she was also curious.

"I'd have to be to be here, right?" Griff replied vaguely.

She raised an eyebrow.

"If you don't want to say, just say 'I'd rather not say'," she told him, and though she was a little annoyed, her tone was still somewhat gentle.

"We've all got secrets, I suspect. Friends should be able to respect that. I know I will."

And there it was. No one had ever asked outright. Only three people had even been told before. Three people who were under surveillance because he'd gone to the dentist.

"It's more a matter of safety and following the rules." Rules made by dead people. "What I do--I haven't tried it here."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
She considered what she was going to say very carefully before she said it.

"My whole life was decided by 106 rules that mean that talking to anyone here makes me look like an idiot half the time. They were in place so that my brother and I weren't found and killed outright.

"So I get it."

She wanted him to know that, that she took it seriously.

"If you don't want to tell me, like I said: you don't have to. I just figure you saying 'I don't think I can tell you' is a lot better than you looking uncomfortable and giving me stupid vague non-answers. Do you get what I'm saying?"

She breathed out.

"I'm assuming it's because of the squirrels, right?"

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It was good to understand that she got it. Even if 106 was a good deal more than his four. But it made him feel as if he could tell her, would tell her if there weren't people and squirrels there to watch him jump.

"I think I would. But I'd have to show you, and we'd need to not be near any bloody drunken squirrels to do it. My thing. Not it it. 'S not like that." He wanted to smack himself for rambling in his nervousness.

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
She leaned a little closer.

"All right. Well, we could try and find a secluded spot on the beach another night," she offered.

"There wouldn't really be anyplace for a squirrel to hide there that we couldn't see."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a good idea and he nodded his assent. "I still owe you a drawing, too."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled brightly; it was even in her eyes.

"That should probably be on a sunny day, though. Unless you want to use a lot of graphite."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Griff grinned, liking to see her smile. "No, definitely a day with lots of light to draw by." It'd bring out her eyes more.

"You free tomorrow night?" Get the jumping done before he could see reason.

She nodded.

"I go to the Fight Club on Sunday evenings, but I'm sure we could do it before or after that. I'm not even sure I'm going to spar with anyone."

She blushed a little.

"It's been an interesting week."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd forgotten Fight Club. "Oh right! I go to that, too. Who knows, maybe we'll end up sparring."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you like."

She spread her hands.

"I'm always willing to try someone for a spar."
