Parents' Weekend Brunch, Sunday Morning to Afternoon, The Park

As was traditional, the start of the end of Parents' Weekend featured plenty of food, benches, chairs, and coffee in the park. After all, the Student Council couldn't let the parents be weirded out one last time without a feast.

The sky was a little overcast, but the temperatures were still above normal, which was a lucky break for the final day of the weekend.

Topher whistled. "Sucks," he commiserated. "But hey! Tony's friend liked it!"

That was up for debate.

"What'd they do?" he asked, munching on a mozzarella stick. See, he could be... almost sensitive. On occasion. Rare occasions.

Well, all Peter had to do to accomplish that was be himself more, he thought semi-hysterically.

"Cheers to good advice," Peter said, with a completely fake smile. "You got anyone running around, Christopher?"

Yeah, he was feeling crappy, so Topher got the full name treatment.

"So you just get the treatment in emails?" Peter asked, ignoring Topher's protests. He'd full-name him any time he wanted not dirty or is it, thank you. "Dear Christopher, stop playing so many video games. And wash your hair! And put on some decent sweaters! And ask your teachers how you've been doing so we can berate you for it later!"

Sorry, Topher. Peter had a lot of feelings.

Rule #1 in the Care and Feeding of Hacker Minions Tophers: Making him feel important was the best way to get results. Personal attacks? Less effective.

"Nothing," he mumbled. Like he was going to mention that he was Totally Not Jealous (Except He Kind Of Was) of all the girls hanging around Tony. Please.

Topher was just lucky Peter wasn't that interested in delving into it. And how willing was he to keep pretending he cared?

...Quite a lot, as it turned out, as long as it meant hanging around with someone who wasn't going to compare him to his brother every other three words and maybe appreciated his awesomeness.

"Completely," he said. "So how about we grab some snack food from the brunch and poke at some of your robots for a while?"

Not a date, Topher. More of a 'I'm miserable and you're miserable so let's go somewhere where you can be miserable while praising my awesome' party.

Topher cast a quick glance over to where Tony was standing with a couple of girls, then back to Peter. "Sure," he said, in a very rare display of agreeability. "You want me to bring anything up? Onion rings are good today."

They were always good, Topher. They were onion rings.
