Parents' Weekend Brunch, Sunday Morning to Afternoon, The Park

As was traditional, the start of the end of Parents' Weekend featured plenty of food, benches, chairs, and coffee in the park. After all, the Student Council couldn't let the parents be weirded out one last time without a feast.

The sky was a little overcast, but the temperatures were still above normal, which was a lucky break for the final day of the weekend.

She enjoyed the visit and was going to miss them.

"Me too," Emily agreed, smiling. "If this place had a swim team, I might even want to join you out here. It's... quiet."

"In some ways, it is," Hanna said. "I think this place has, like, a force field or something that keeps certain things away."

She was sure Emily knew what she meant by 'certain things.'

"So you like it here?" Emily asked with a curious little smile. "No typical high school drama or anything?"

"Not typical, no," Hanna replied. She didn't tell Emily about the weekend she was living another soap opera life. "It's kinda peaceful here, but not in a boring way."

"That's really good, Hanna," Emily said sincerely. "I'm glad you can have a... drama-free experience. Even if it's just for a little while."

"Well, I think I'll be home for Thanksgiving," Hanna told her. "So I expect some drama then. But I miss everyone. I guess I can never stay away completely."

"Yeah," Emily agreed. "Even if it would be nice to get away to somewhere like this, I think I'd miss home. Aria and Spencer and Maya..."

Yes, that was a faint blush on that last name. Shut up.

"We're friends," Emily said, laughing a little and tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Starting over. You know. But... I don't know, things just feel really good right now. Like everything can just work."

"I went on a date with four guys and a girl a few weeks ago on the same night," Hanna said with a laugh. Before Emily could boggle, she quickly added, "Three-minute dates. Was fun, but nothing serious."

Truthfully, she was still kinda getting over Caleb.
