Parents' Weekend Brunch, Sunday Morning to Afternoon, The Park
As was traditional, the start of the end of Parents' Weekend featured plenty of food, benches, chairs, and coffee in the park. After all, the Student Council couldn't let the parents be weirded out one last time without a feast.
The sky was a little overcast, but the temperatures were still above normal, which was a lucky break for the final day of the weekend.

Re: Tables! [PW]
Re: Tables! [PW]
"Are you her boyfriend?" she asked.
Somehow, when God was handing out tact, he had missed the Lass house entirely.
Re: Tables! [PW]
"... Uh. No?"
God, he hoped that was the right answer.
Re: Tables! [PW]
"No," she said. "He's just this ... guy."
So should she be upset that he said 'no'? She would have felt weird if he had said yes. He wasn't her boyfriend. Did that mean he didn't want to be, like, he wasn't interested at all, like, he was probably --
Hey, maybe she could still try the setting-herself-on-fire route. It was never too late!
Re: Tables! [PW]
"Whatever," Reggie said. "You guys are weird."
Well, they were. It wasn't really a complicated question.
"Does your family usually bail on stuff?" she asked Jeremy.
If George was going to be stupid, then she'd talk to this guy.
Re: Tables! [PW]
"Uh, I, um... No?" This was such an excellent answer. "They're just... busy. With stuff. We're pretty important in New York."
Re: Tables! [PW]
"What is it your family does, anyway?" George asked. "You ... never told me."
There was a lot they hadn't talked about, wasn't there? That was okay. She knew awesome things about him, like the fact that he was fun and kissed really well. Those were good things to know.
Re: Tables! [PW]
And they owned like half of Manhattan.
Re: Tables! [PW]
No, George. Owning half of Manhattan didn't translate to any perks at all. Jeremy never got VIP treatment anywhere. It was really sad.
Re: Tables! [PW]
The guy was half his age. Seriously, Dad?
Re: Tables! [PW]
... And he didn't know what else to say, so he hesitated, then turned to George again. "To answer your question, yes. I get stuff."
Re: Tables! [PW]
Really worth dredging up over brunch. It paled in comparison to the whole dead sister angle, or the whole awkwardness of everything else. Right? Great!
She shrugged. "What kind of stuff?" she asked. "Is any of it good?"
Reggie was poking at her brunch with disinterest.
Re: Tables! [PW]
And he was being vague because they got everything for free. It was the weirdest thing about being rich.
Re: Tables! [PW]
Re: Tables! [PW]
Re: Tables! [PW]
It earned her a strange look from her older sister. "Since when are you into scooters?"
"I dunno," Reggie said. "Vespas are cool."
Re: Tables! [PW]
A pause, and he remembered what he'd been about to say way earlier.
"Uh, that means like... cool."
Re: Tables! [PW]
"Why does cool mean cool?" Reggie countered. "Slang is all weird like that."
Reggie had a point.
"Can I take a ride on your Vespa?" Reggie asked, before realizing that that was probably going to be an impossibility. "Oh. Never mind. Take George, then."
And that was when George facepalmed.
Re: Tables! [PW]
Excellent.
Re: Tables! [PW]
She couldn't really be that surprised, could she?
"I have a bicycle," George said. "But it's ... here. On the island."
Oh. Apparently she didn't need Reggie's help to fuck things up.
"It's ... not a Vespa."
Re: Tables! [PW]
"Do you always get this stupid around boys?"
Re: Tables! [PW]
He was also not really looking at her right now.
