Parents' Weekend Brunch, Sunday Morning to Afternoon, The Park

As was traditional, the start of the end of Parents' Weekend featured plenty of food, benches, chairs, and coffee in the park. After all, the Student Council couldn't let the parents be weirded out one last time without a feast.

The sky was a little overcast, but the temperatures were still above normal, which was a lucky break for the final day of the weekend.

[OOC: Have fun!]

"Cheeky wench," Jaime laughed and grabbed the sword, holding it out hilt first to Kate so she could draw it from its sheath. "I'd show you, but I don't tend to fight wenches."

Jaime, you were getting the side-eye for that one. Not even a shiny, shiny sword could distract her.

"...Wench?"

Jaime shrugged and he started lifting the blade. "You want to have a look or not? Wench?"

And another cocky smirk followed that up, as if daring her to take offense.

"Kate," she corrected, reaching to take the hilt and draw it out a short way to look at the blade. "We're not on the seven seas here."

Did she realise she was just inviting him to keep calling her wench?

He smirked and drew the sheath off the blade entirely. "So, show me what you've got, wench."

She glanced around them, taking it with both hands and adjusting her fingers around the hilt to get a feel of the grip. Heavier than Slayer, but not the largest she'd had use of and well-balanced by her estimation.

"You don't think waving a sword at my teacher's brother might be frowned on?" she asked.

It was tempting, to stop him from referring to her as wench. Not that she was entirely sure even that would work.

She was learning then. Jaime laughed and he got to his feet, still holding on to the swords sheath.

"I doubt it. People have a tendency to expect the worst from me, so you needn't worry. Besides, if you are to protect my brother, I need to make certain you are up to the task."

He held up the sheath as if it were a blade itself and crooked his fingers at her. "Don't disappoint me, wench." Yeah, totally goading her.

Being given a good reason to try and remove his throat was an excellent motivator, he had that right. A part of her even knew exactly what he was doing, but that didn't stop her from wanting to try it and rolling her shoulders as she stood herself.

"You better not get me fired," she warned. Could TA's get fired? She wasn't certain, but it seemed likely.

"You better prove worthy to defend a Lannister then," he was smirking and there was no thing as pushing too far, right? "Wench."

He was enjoying this far too much. Tyrion might yell at him later.

Sorry, Kate.

Kate made one last check around to make sure no one was standing too close (and that Greg wasn't lurking ready to make disappointed eyes at her).

"And I think you have a 'reputation' to prove," she threw back as she moved in opposite him.

Two could play at that game.

"Me?" Jaime said innocently. His eyes followed her, but his pose remained relaxed and he was obviously going to let her make the first move.

"You are mistaken. My reputation is well and truly proven. Or well and truly ruined, it depends who you talk to." Him or someone else.

Kate had to snicker and shook her head.

"Yeah, but I don't haven't talked to any of these people," she pointed out, gauging a moment to strike out. For all her talk, she could tell a fighter, and his calm was in no way fooling her.

Best thing was not to show preparation, and strike quick and light for now. He had no real weapon so she had no intention of putting any real weight behind it until she was sure of how fast he was.

She grinned and struck out. Nothing he wouldn't be able to block or avoid if he was as talented as he claimed.

"Good for you. They're all terribly boring and uptight," he assured her.

The sheath instantly came up, blocking the strike and Jaime leaned forward, raising an eyebrow. "Got to do better than that, wench. I won't break."

"You don't have a weapon. You've probably noticed." She was being nice by not jumping right in to really trying to poke holes in him.

Still didn't stop her from arching the sword around for another strike, at his left side. Off hand, people could be a little weaker in their defense. Kate would never win at power, but she was quick, though not as she'd have liked with a heavier sword.

Jaime shifted back so there would be less force as he parried the blow. She was fast, he'd give her that and he decided to test how fast she was as he struck out towards her hip.

"No, I completely failed to notice."

Kate dodged to the side, just enough to hope it would miss.

"Apparently," she exhaled, catching her balance as she stepped back to give her a better stance when she struck forward again, high at his shoulder. "All the better for me, right?"

"You'd be foolish not to take it to your advantage," he agreed, his blade coming up to block and push hers away.

This was getting better and while he would not be able to test her kills for real with only a sheath as weapon, he could use it to test her speed.

"Let's step things up, shall we?" he suggested as he moved into the opening for his next attack.

No one seemed to care, at least not in trying to stop them, and he hadn't called her 'wench' for a good thirty seconds.

Enough reason to grin and nod, "Bring it."

Once she loosened up a little it was easy to get into a flow dodging and parrying and letting her instincts guide her strikes rather than her mind. She was still pulling her hits, but that seemed... wise, considering the circumstances. This wasn't an arena.

Which he did appreciate as it would be a shame to have to order a new sheath and it was a testing of skills rather than trying to trash each other. No matter how much he enjoyed goading the wench.

The goading was replaced by a pleased grin as they fell into the flow of striking and blocking and it was a dance he enjoyed for too much. After a moment, he eased back, though, satisfied with the skills he had seen despite how he could see that she was used to a lighter blade.

"You'll do," he allowed with a smirk.
