The Park, Most of Sunday

Had the carnival changed? Retreated? No, but perhaps it had filled up even worse over the past twenty-four hours or so.

The look on that mustached man's face certainly exuded a certain amount of triumph as the lights went on again early on Sunday morning. He stabbed the ground with his cane and watched; if experience counted for anything, then there would be yet more pouring into his carnival today.

The feeding was good, here.

That scent of cotton candy rolled over the island once more, and the carnival's music touched what it could not.

It's a new day, Fandom. Come, enjoy it.

"I'll live," he told her, finally pushing himself to his feet and taking a moment to dump out each mug of tea so no one would accidentally drink it. "I've been through worse torture. This one...didn't even hurt too much."

Well.

"Besides the slap, that is. Bloody ow."

Irene crooked a smile at him as she leaned against the table. "You didn't really leave me a choice," she said lightly, though she tilted her head to look at his cheek. "But I'm a professional. You won't have any scars or anything, promise."

Once the tea was just a mess of spilled liquids on the table, he looked back up at her and smiled a bit.

"Thank you," he said and meant it sincerely. "For doing what you did. And I'm sorry for doing what I did."

"Any time," she said quietly, sincerely. "And I know it wasn't you. No hard feelings."

She straightened up, stretching gingerly. "Now, I'm going to go home and sleep until Tuesday, if you don't mind. Strychnine really takes a bit out of a girl."

Maybe joking about it would make it seem a little less horrifying, in hindsight? That was how she was going to deal with it, anyway.

Hatter guessed she wasn't going to be partaking in his tea anytime soon, though. He wouldn't blame her.

At her words, he nodded. "Do let me know if I can help in anyway. I'm going home and...I'm probably going to drink something a lot harder than tea."
