The Park, Most of Sunday

Had the carnival changed? Retreated? No, but perhaps it had filled up even worse over the past twenty-four hours or so.

The look on that mustached man's face certainly exuded a certain amount of triumph as the lights went on again early on Sunday morning. He stabbed the ground with his cane and watched; if experience counted for anything, then there would be yet more pouring into his carnival today.

The feeding was good, here.

That scent of cotton candy rolled over the island once more, and the carnival's music touched what it could not.

It's a new day, Fandom. Come, enjoy it.

That was more like it, and Clint gave her a slightly less creepy smile. "I need someone who can keep my secrets. There are a lot of people who might want to know how my arrows work, and I can't share that with just anyone."

"I would never tell," she assured him. "Can I come over there?"

She was still staying the hell phased for the moment, because she was not stupid.

"You're not going to try to stab me or anything, are you? I know how you women get," he said.

Kitty had no idea how she managed not to make a face at that one.

"I promise I won't try to do anything like that," she said instead.

"Well then, come on back," Clint said, stepping aside to let Kitty come into the booth. "I was hoping you'd change your mind, you're a lot less weird than that other girl."

"What other girl?" she asked, coming into the booth. Maybe if she could keep him talking it'd be easier for her to do what she needed to do.

"Some cute little blonde. Said she was a hunter," Clint said, picking up his bow and looking it over. "I figured she might want to help me out, working with a crossbow and all, but she said no. Guess that makes it your lucky day."

Well, she disliked the blonde now, but whatever.

"Guess so," she said, going in to spring a hug on him.

Even as himself, Clint wasn't a fan of surprise hugs. This version of him was even less impressed, and he squirmed hard, trying to push Kitty back. "The hell, woman? What are you doing?"

Kitty just glommed on harder. She was like a hug koala right now.

"You might be creepy and kinda misogynistic right now but I still miss you," she hugged.

Clint was finding it a little harder to squirm, but he still glared at Kitty. "What are you talking about? You barely know me. Get off of me, or you're seriously going to regret it."

"Nope. I know you and I love you and I regret nothing." Especially not hugs.

Clint had all but stopped struggling in Kitty's hold, but hearing her say she loved him knocked all the wind out of his sails, and he collapsed against her with a sigh.

Sorry Kitty, you were a trooper for putting up with this.

"You there?" Kitty asked against his shoulder.

"Kitty?" Clint said softly, wrapping his arms around her as well as he could. "What the hell happened?"

Kitty let out a sigh of relief, squeezing him tighter. "Evil carnival. We're fixing it. Do you remember it at all?"

Clint did have a lot of memories from the last few days, but one stuck out in particular as he buried his head in her shoulder. "Did I try to shoot you again?"

"It wasn't a problem," Kitty assured him, rubbing circles with her hands over his back.

"It's definitely a problem," Clint said, squirming again. "I'm okay now, you can stop with the hugging."

"Are you sure?" she asked, pulling back a little bit. Because he was going to be dealing with a physically clingy girlfriend probably for most of the week anyway.

Clint felt so bad about getting messed up again that he nodded and outright put his hands on Kitty's waist to try to push himself away from her. "I'm fine. I can't believe a hug worked, but I'm fine."

Knowing what she did of how Clint reacted to bad stuff, Kitty told herself not to take that personally. "As solutions go, I didn't think this one was so bad," she said with a little smile.

"You shouldn't have had to do it," Clint said with a sigh. "I'm really sorry."

"It wasn't your fault," she told him, reaching for his hand. "And hugging you isn't really a chore."

Clint gave Kitty's hand a small squeeze and glanced around. "Can we get out of here? I'd really like to not be here anymore."
