The day started with a rainbow. Not that there had been any rain last night, really. The island, noticing the ~~handwavy~~ posters up around town, had figured it wanted to contribute to the spirit of the whole thing, and slapping a big, bright rainbow into the sky had seemed like the obvious way to do it. By around noon, it was clear that the rainbow was going to be sticking around, too, less a meteorological phenominon and more a banner painted across the sky. Down below, little flowers had popped up overnight in bright colours, some mimicking the rainbow up above, some in other configurations; pink-purple-blue, blue-pink-white-pink-blue, black-grey-white-purple, yellow-white-purple-black, and so on. The flowers, fortunately, were there to be pretty, with no other weird effects on the island's populace.

Though, really, if presenting a bouquet of them to one's favourite person ended well for somebody, the island wasn't going to complain, either.

The parade itself was to start on the Causeway, a good gathering point for Fandomites in the past, and a fairly central location on the island. From there it would follow Griffin Lane to Galactica Drive, Serendipity Place, Godiva Street, back onto Serendipity and following it until it turned into Loon and Loon turned into Chimera. Then one final turn onto Apocalypse before ending up at the Park, where people were welcome to sit and mingle to their hearts' content.

The weather was nice, making liars out of the meteorologists in favour of shunting clouds aside for sunshine and a pleasant breeze. A perfect day for a parade!

Sparkle hummed happily into the kiss, and pouted just the slightest bit when Leto pulled back again. Awww. Come baaaaack.

"I mean... yeah, denial," he replied, still pouting. "Like I wanted anybody back home to know I was gay? People got the shit kicked out of them for that sort of thing, and I was just a stupid, scared kid."

Hell, he still was a stupid, scared kid, a lot of the time.

"I know you can be judged harshly for such things in this time," Leto replied gently. "And being scared isn't necessarily being stupid."

He smiled, leanings is forehead against Sparkle's. "That has changed though."

"It's changed," Sparkle agreed, smiling a little bit more. "For the better, I think. It's nice to just be me, you know?"

Maybe in the future, that would involve less arson.

In the future Sparkle should find a better way to express anger, Leto thought. What about using knives instead? He was going to have quite a collection eventually anyway.

"I do prefer to see you being you," Leto said, smiling back. "But you know that."

Well, that would be murder. That was different.

"Yeah," Sparkle agreed fondly, "you've let me know."

It was nice. Leto was welcome to keep doing that.

It wasn't murder if they didn't die.

"It's not such an issue, where I am from. We don't necessarily define us by our preferences when it comes to partners," Leto said, returning to the previous subject. "I'm not used to someone being attacked for it. Or for it to be celebrated, for the matter."

"We celebrate it in spite of the reasons we've been given to be afraid to do so," Sparkle replied. "I mean, if everybody was cool with it, there wouldn't have been any need for the protests that these parades started as in the first place."

Sparkle was kind of jealous of any place where this wasn't a big deal, really.

"Celebrating in the face of oppression? That is a powerful thing."

Leto smiled. "I've just seen too many parades in my life, even if they have been very different ones. But I am happy to share any other celebrations with you."

And Sparkle got another kiss. Because kissing was part of this celebration, wasn't it?

If you were to ask Sparkle, it was one of the best parts!

"Gonna hold you to that," he decided. "All the celebrations we can manage..."

"I like that plan," Leto said with a laugh. "How do you want to celebrate? I know little of the traditions after all."

"Well, right now I wanna just sit in the park for a bit and appreciate your company," Sparkle decided, nuzzling up against Leto. "And tomorrow I'm gonna want to take in the picnic, you know? But there's all sorts of time somewhere in the middle. Dinner for two? I think an impromptu date could be fun..."

"It would," Leto agreed, laughing softly as he brushed his hand through Sparkle's hair. "I'm going to agree with all your suggestions, I think."

"Oh, good," Sparkle replied, making a happy little noise as he snuggled his face into Leto's shoulder for a moment. "I'd hate to have to sulk at you or something."

"If I don't agree, you are going to sulk? And you call me a brat?" Leto laughed again.

"Hey, you being a brat doesn't mean I can't be a brat too," Sparkle laughed, and then leaned up to kiss Leto again. "I guess that would just mean that we match that much better, wouldn't it?"

"Yes, we do match quite well, don't we?" Leto brushed his fingers against Sparkle's cheek.

"Anyone who disagrees is stupid," Sparkle decided. Because that was about where his brain was, today. "Because anything this good has to be right."

That wasn't always the case, and Leto knew that, but he wasn't going to ruin this moment. Instead he leaned in to kiss Sparkle again, content to letting that kiss last long this time, and then murmured against his lips:

"I've missed you."
