Fandom Pride Parade: Saturday Afternoon

The day started with a rainbow. Not that there had been any rain last night, really. The island, noticing the handwavy posters up around town, had figured it wanted to contribute to the spirit of the whole thing, and slapping a big, bright rainbow into the sky had seemed like the obvious way to do it. By around noon, it was clear that the rainbow was going to be sticking around, too, less a meteorological phenominon and more a banner painted across the sky. Down below, little flowers had popped up overnight in bright colours, some mimicking the rainbow up above, some in other configurations; pink-purple-blue, blue-pink-white-pink-blue, black-grey-white-purple, yellow-white-purple-black, and so on. The flowers, fortunately, were there to be pretty, with no other weird effects on the island's populace.

Though, really, if presenting a bouquet of them to one's favourite person ended well for somebody, the island wasn't going to complain, either.

The parade itself was to start on the Causeway, a good gathering point for Fandomites in the past, and a fairly central location on the island. From there it would follow Griffin Lane to Galactica Drive, Serendipity Place, Godiva Street, back onto Serendipity and following it until it turned into Loon and Loon turned into Chimera. Then one final turn onto Apocalypse before ending up at the Park, where people were welcome to sit and mingle to their hearts' content.

The weather was nice, making liars out of the meteorologists in favour of shunting clouds aside for sunshine and a pleasant breeze. A perfect day for a parade!

"They have parades like this in Orlais?" Lucille asked.

"Not... quite like this," Cassandra said. "But loud and colorful, yes."

"I see," Lucille said. "I suppose there are parades in my country,I have to admit, but none close to where I live. And I doubt they are as colourful or for the same cause."

"What is the cause? Do you know?"

Because Cassandra had no idea.

"I have been told it is to celebrate the love between people of the same gender," Lucille said, attempting to enlighten her friend. She had failed to grasp that there were other groups included too. "And to support their rights."

"Ah, that," Cassandra said, affecting a pained expression. "It still concerns me, the amount of significance people in this time and place put on such things. In Thedas one loves whoever one loves, and everyone carries on as normal."

"Where I come from people are put in prison for it," Lucille said. "Well, the men, at least."

She wrinkled her nose. "People there are obsessed with what they consider morality."

Cassandra shook her head. "I still do not understand how what happens between consenting people matters all that much," she said. "Let alone be worth imprisonment!"

"I don't agree with those kinds of morals myself," Lucille replied. "Some things are better here, even if they need parades to celebrate it."

"True. I suppose it is simply appalling to me that such a thing is necessary," Cassandra said.

"As am I."

Would Cassandra be appalled by how people judged Lucille's relationship with her brother, or would she be appalled by it?
seeks_truth: (cass: i like you)

That... was likely to be a difficult matter. To put it mildly.

"Then not all people from your time are so terrible about it," she said. "I'm glad."

Which was why Lucille hadn't brought it up.

She hesitated a little, then asked, nervously. "But... have you ever loved another girl?"

Cassandra blinked. "...No," she said. "Have you?"

"No!" Lucille replied hastily. "I just wondered because it seemed very common in Thedas."

This felt a little awkward and she wished she hadn't asked.

"Perhaps it is not so much common as that we have no real desire to hide such things," Cassandra said, but she was tilting her head curiously at Lucille, none the less.

"I didn't mean to imply..." Lucille began before realizing that implying didn't matter much if there was no judgement being passed.

She fell silent, trying to think of a way to get out of this conversation.

"That I was interested in women?" Cassandra guessed, regardless of her silence. "I would hardly be offended if you did, but I've simply not found it to be true. So far."
crimson_sister: (sad)

"That is true. It is confusing." Lucille wasn't really sure. Perhaps they should change the subject?
