The day started with a rainbow. Not that there had been any rain last night, really. The island, noticing the ~~handwavy~~ posters up around town, had figured it wanted to contribute to the spirit of the whole thing, and slapping a big, bright rainbow into the sky had seemed like the obvious way to do it. By around noon, it was clear that the rainbow was going to be sticking around, too, less a meteorological phenominon and more a banner painted across the sky. Down below, little flowers had popped up overnight in bright colours, some mimicking the rainbow up above, some in other configurations; pink-purple-blue, blue-pink-white-pink-blue, black-grey-white-purple, yellow-white-purple-black, and so on. The flowers, fortunately, were there to be pretty, with no other weird effects on the island's populace.

Though, really, if presenting a bouquet of them to one's favourite person ended well for somebody, the island wasn't going to complain, either.

The parade itself was to start on the Causeway, a good gathering point for Fandomites in the past, and a fairly central location on the island. From there it would follow Griffin Lane to Galactica Drive, Serendipity Place, Godiva Street, back onto Serendipity and following it until it turned into Loon and Loon turned into Chimera. Then one final turn onto Apocalypse before ending up at the Park, where people were welcome to sit and mingle to their hearts' content.

The weather was nice, making liars out of the meteorologists in favour of shunting clouds aside for sunshine and a pleasant breeze. A perfect day for a parade!

"I mean, it's Pride," Sparkle laughed. "I've been waiting basically my whole life to be able to attend one of these things."

"I'm very pleased you'll be able to, then," Hannibal said. "Would you like a meat or fruit pie, or would that disturb your makeup?" he teased.

"I can eat and look pretty at the same time," Sparkle replied loftily. "It's a rare skill, but I've got it mastered."

He paused to consider Hannibal's outfit.

"I bet you could, too."

The suit seemed so out of place around here.

"Eat and look pretty?" Hannibal asked. "I like to think I often manage it."

Hey, his linen suit was purple, his shirt was a dark paisley pattern, his hat was indigo, and his pocket square and hat band were painted in sunset colors. It was as rainbow as he got, and a look not many others could probably pull off.

"Sure," Sparkle agreed. "But it needs a little something..."

Give him a second. He was rummaging through his makeup kit.

"Should I be afraid to ask?" Hannibal asked, amused.

"Nothing serious," Sparkle replied. "I'm not going to give you hot pink lips and body glitter or anything. I'm just thinking maybe some eyeliner. It's in the spirit of the day and all..."

And helped make the suit a little more approachable.

Hannibal laughed. "I may have some glitter for you tomorrow," he said. "And hot pink really isn't my color. Still, I suppose I could wear eyeliner if you insist."

It wasn't exactly his sort of fashion, but this day was more Sparkle's dream than his.

"Ever put it on before, or are you going to need help?"

Sparkle was bouncing a bit at the thought. Yessss, pretty Hannibal.

Hannibal shook his head and held his hand out for the pencil. "I was a woman for an entire month once, and several weekends since. I've kept my skills up."

Makeup, as Sparkle no doubt knew, could be a very effective disguise, too.

"Do you have a color to go with my suit?"

"Do I?" Sparkle could have just laughed at that outright. "Hell yes I do. I've got a colour to go with every damn colour on the Pride flag."

He passed Hannibal the pencil, and a compact mirror he carried around for just such occasions. Not that he did his makeup as often these days as he used to, but you never knew, really...

"Might be nice to match it to those pocket squares instead. Kind of tie it all together a little." He paused. "No, the purple's better with your complexion. Oh god, too many options..."

Hannibal laughed as he took the purple pencil and started applying it. "Purple it is."

Sparkle was pretty much beaming at the fact that this was happening at all. Look! Enabling! On Pride! With makeup!

Yes!

"Bet we could do something amazing with eyeshadow too, but that might be getting carried away."

"Perhaps a bit much," Hannibal agreed. He wasn't even sure about the eyeliner, though it didn't look bad; he imagined Jono would enjoy it.

"Maybe next time," Sparkle replied, grinning. "I mean, I wasn't going to paint you up like I'm prepping you for a drag show or anything, but you don't just spring eyeshadow on a person, either."

"No, apparently only eyeliner." Hannibal finished and handed the pencil back to Sparkle. "Am I sufficiently Proud now?"

Sparkle squinted, and then leaned this way and that, presumably to get a look at Hannibal from every possible angle.

"That'll do," he settled on. "Pride away."
