Something had taken Ino.
SOMETHING HAD TAKEN INO, and there was no way in hell Zack was going into these woods and leaving without her. He had a bright blue mako fury in his eyes as he approached the massive thing coming their way, reaching to his back to draw his sword.
And then pausing.
And squinting.
"Billy, you traitor! We loved you!"
He really never should have equipped the fish with a Regen Materia.

It opened its gaping fish-maw.

... and sprayed a thick, noxious flurry of confetti all over Zack.

Confetti was supposed to bring joy into people's hearts, not... bog them down and make them feel queasy. Had he and Hernando taught you nothing, Billy?
Zack writhed around a bit, trying to free himself from the confetti so that he could really tuck in and attack Billy back. He'd taken down dragons and gods before. How much damage could one fish really do?

Nibelheim had been harder on him than he would have liked, and he hadn't fought anything substantial in years. So, instead of rushing back toward the fish to hack at it, he decided to play it... marginally safer, holding out a hand and throwing a decently sized fireball at the fish.
Hey, he'd started it.

... and then that eye glittered again, and rainbow rippled over the damaged parts of his body and set them back right again. The fish turned in the air.

It vomited a whole torrent of confetti.

Which was about the last thought he managed before being buried under confetti.
He'd probably be a while trying to get out from under all of that, but he was going to be very put out when he finally managed it, yeah.
